Father Chatten captured by Heathens!
Popular Parisian priest at missionary to the ignorant, Father Gerard Chatten, is believed to have been captured by savages in West Africa.
Details are currently spotty, but it is believed that Father Chatten was taken by locals who did not approve of his plans to return to Paris for the new year, instead preferring to keep him in West Africa permanently.
The Church is currently trying to negotiate a ransom in the hopes that Father Chatten will be returned home safely.

Ile de France Investment Company expands premises
Monsieur Balls, proprietor of the Ile de France Investment Company, has announced the company's expansion into a deluxe boutique. The new business will be capitalising on Monsieur's Balls expertise in investment opportunities and hopes to become the premier investment company in Paris. With Monsieur Balls' experience in the area and his attraction of some very notable customers to his earlier shop (in particular Lord Lagarde de Bearne is known to be a frequent Patron) financial observers see this as the business to watch next year.
The new premises will be opening in January.

The Greasy Pole with Sieur Matheus Mallette
It seems Subaltern Hoffman is a man who is going places. On his return to Paris, the honest soldier was sent splashing his Livres about like they were going out of fashion. Not only did he purchase a town house in the respectable neighborhood of Les Batignoles, I'm sure his fine carriage will be the envy of his new neighbours. (And unlike Passy, the wheels should stay attached).
Monsieur Balls was also a busy man. When not working in his shop he was seen patronising the theatre for the new ballet from the King's Men and later on was seen fratenising with Lord Coulomb, the ballet's author and a formal protege of non other than His Majesty himself.
Speaking of high society, I hear that Lord Bougeidure greatly impressed with his interesting conversation at court this month. I hear that Mlle LeBeau also impressed His Majesty with her considerable assets.
Elsewhere in the month, Lord and Lady de la Azur took a break from artistic pursuits and state duties with a quiet drink in the Fleur de Lys and I hear that Subaltern Hoffman's new paramour Mlle LaHey was rather the center of attention from the regular patrons at The Horse Guards club.

Comtess Yvonne De Villepin – A Romantic Interlude
I shall start with the positive developments this month as frankly some of you have behaved abominably and yes Doctor D'Eath I am talking about you!!! First, congratulations are due to Monsieur and Madame Balls on the birth of their new daughter and it is good to know that she shall be born into comfort what with the business expansion and I look forward to hearing what her name is to be!!! And our brave soldier Subaltern Hoffman and Mlle LaHey make a lovely couple and I wish them a long happiness together!!! And then we move to the disgusting behaviour of Doctor D'Eath and I will say that breaking poor Mlle Calvert's heart by dumping her was the action of a cad anyway and to do so with the banging of a tambourine and triangle outside her house in the small hours of the morning was not funny despite what you seem to think and neither was your despicable poem and I hear that you have been blacklisted from the Debutantes' Ball and quite right too!!! Finally, I have been told that I am not allowed to comment on other events this month so I shall just say I have sympathy for Lord Bougiedure and he deserves better and I am not allowed to say more!!!
Editor's Note: Thank you to the musicians in the employ of Doctor D'Eath for providing us with their song. Comtess De Villepin would like to make it clear that she does not approve of publication.
Oh Agnes, oh Agnes the time has now come
To rid myself of your face so glum
There’s much more in life than rosary beads
Please understand that a man he has needs
Reciting the psalms for hours each day
Is a sure way to drive your partner away
Moaning and whining and wanting more money
Tis surely no route to becoming my honey
So away with ye woman fast exit my life
Freedom at last from the thought of a wife
One who for sure would have brought no joy or no fun
I might as well marry a damned virgin nun
Now life starts again with you and I done
Hurrah for poor Bastian now’s time to have fun
Drinking and whoring, plus good hearty chuckle
Beats Mass every week and one off the knuckle!

Theater News
After a run of poorly reviewed plays, the Royal Theater returns to form with Marguerite, a ballet from the King's Men. The ballet was widely agreed to be a success, with the dancing especially of note.
The Archduke's Men have announced that they are moving into new areas with a Opera scheduled for May's production.
The opera, a retelling of the Biblical story of David and Goliath is a collaboration between Monsieur Balls (best known for his bawdy plays) and new writer Mlle Valanon, a widely respected socialite in Parisian society.
