A few game universe observations on this.
It's clear from JBO and HLB that Isle de la Cite and Monmarte are definitely the areas for the nobility. (I suspect the former is "old money" and the latter "new" although that's a guideline rather than a restriction).
RA on the other hand is, despite his high status, living in a respectable working class area. This suggests that he is either a) a man of the people or b) a man with moths in his wallet.
Belleville is clearly the place for the respected professional gentleman and Charrone for the lower middle classes and the aspirational working classes.
Not too much should be read into HH's choice of accommodation, he's hardly been in Paris long!
Perhaps most interesting is AUB's choice of residence. Highly respectable, this would mirror the idea that the merchants are increasingly a force to be reckoned with in their own right rather than just another type of peasant.

Wonderful to read that Docteur De'Ath is considered respectable! Who'd ever have guessed it!!

Passy
Aloys Gauthier (Rented Garret)
Heloise d'Armagnac (Rented Garret) Mon Dieu!
Another piece of scurrilous gossip about a poor widow. I have never been to Passy, let alone taken a garret there! My late husband left me our home in Charrone, and I live in La Chappelle nowadays.
