Medical News
It is rare to have a King's Executioner who is also a medical professional, but Paris is truly blessed in the figure of Doctor D'Eath.
It seems that the good doctor's reputation is growing, as he was seen this month visiting the Archbishop of Avignon for reasons unspecified.
The doctor has also taken the groundbreaking approach of dealing with pregnancies himself. While controversial (especially among Parisian midwives) Doctor D'eath's expertise in this area is leading to an increasing demand for his services.

The Greasy Pole with Sieur Matheus Mallette.
Monsieur Balls decided to check out his playwriting competition this month and it seems he has little to worry about. One doesn't expect much from plays at The Cock Pit, but generally one hopes that the Archduke's Men will know their lines, that the scenery won't fall down and that a bawdy play will in fact contain a joke or two. And yet, alas, none of those elements were in place. At least Monsieur Balls was guest of honour at the first night party, perhaps because he was in fact the most respected resident of Paris willing to attend. A decision he is, perhaps, regretting. Still, at least he had a flutter with his rival playwright and came out very much on top.
Monsieur Balls did try and help civilise Paris later in the month with an art show at the Rose & Crown. I hear the painting (by respected artist Viscomte de la Azur) was at least pleasant. Although sadly nobody quite knows as nobody showed up and I had to get a report from the barman!
Largely, the rest of the month's social activity took place among the great and good at court.
Viscomte and Viscomtess de la Azur, Baron Bonnett and Mlle Valerie and Comte and Comtess Lagarde de Bearne were all seen attending royal balls this month.
The Lagarde de Bearnes apparently enjoy Royal Balls greatly as they attended both! At the first Ball it has to be said that the Comtess was somewhat indiscreet, doing only what can be described as glowering at the back of the King after he paid her a compliment. But she more than made up for it in the second Ball, where his charm and wit made her the center of the ladies present. Mlle Valerie isn't that used to court occasions, but with the help of Baron Bonnet the couple impressed, especially on the dance floor. The same cannot be said for Viscomtess de la Azur who was wrongfooted in a very literal sense by the introduction of a new dance to the floor.
I do hear that Comte Lagarde de Bearne got very animated about facts and figures at the government meeting. So much that the term "droning on" was used by one of the less kind attendees.

Comtess Yvonne De Villepin – A Romantic Interlude
I do respect a man with a profession and Doctor D'Eath certainly has that and a respected one too but he should remember that there is more to life than work especially where the fairer sex is concerned!!! He neglected his new fiance all month while he spent his time ministering to unfortunates and while in some ways that is very impressive he still perhaps should look at his work/life balance so the same does not happen in the future as I hear poor Angnes was quite distraught that they did not make their monthly church visit!!!

An Ecumenical Matter with Pastor Jacques
I HEAR that Father Chatten may be REJOINING us in PARIS for the FESTIVE season. His work in AFRICA has been GREATLY respected, even leading to talk of a TITLE. But there is some QUESTION to whether he will be able to quickly ADJUST to the more CIVILISED nature of life in the CAPITAL. Time will TELL.

Reports from the Front by General Georges Boulle (rtd.)Spanish FrontierBloody good month, with the enemy being driven from the field. As expected the RNHB had a huge part to play here, but of equal value were the Dragoon Guards. Their hit and run tactics panicked the enemy and they never quite recovered. Brigadier-General Bougiedure and his aide Subaltern Hoffman have both been recognised for the vital part they played in inspiring the regiment. Hans Hoffman has even been given the full Subaltern rank, despite his lowly background. (I would have given it him anyway for being a bloody good soldier but not my bloody decision).
Mentions in Dispatches: Jacques Bougiedure, Hans Hoffman Promotion: Hans Hoffman Medals: Jacques Bougiedure (Croix de la Cite), Hans Hoffman (Croix de la Cite)
FlandersFought off a few attempts at ambushes, but nothing to write home about. LorraineNothing to report. Everything quiet to the point of eerieness. SavoyAnother ambush (enemy seems a bit desperate if you ask me) but we held the area. Next month:
