Improving SCR of work / piece / play

I think it´s quite hard to improve the SCR on a work / piece / play. So the artist should be capable of "undoing" what went wrong in a specific month, which would worsen the SCR of the work / piece / play. Of course that cannot go at will. I hope, my English is good enough for you to understand my intentions.

If producing a work (Artist), musical piece (Musician) or play (Author), which takes longer than one month to finish, each month a SCR is made. If a SCR is impairing the quality of a work, the artist may decide to undo the changes to that work, effectively setting back the changes produced during that month with the bad SCR to the state before having the work impaired. However, the artist may not continue with the work right the next month without a penalty. For every point of SCR worse than the state of the work before the impairing effort the artist gets a penalty to his next SCR roll, subtracted from his skill level. To reduce this penalty he needs three months of distraction from the work. In roleplaying terms the artist is still so caught up in the previous effort´s ideas, that he cannot free himself of them. Only time can get him over it.

Example:
Cyrano, a well known musician (music 8), has worked for two weeks on a musical piece, which he would like to introduce at an art show, where Royalty will be present.The first SCR is a 3, which isn´t the grade of success he wishes to produce. A SCR of 2 would do him fine, if not a Triumphant Success. So he spends another week in the month before the show, but recieves only a SCR of 4. Which would worsen the SCR of the piece to a final SCR of 4.
Cyrano decides to have the latter effort canceled, so the piece wouldn´t become worse than before. If he wishes to introduce the piece nonetheless at the art show, he may do so, but only with a final SCR of 3. If he still tries to impove the piece to SCR 2, he has to spend another week of work at it and, including the penalty of -1, reach an SCR of 1. Which will be a major endeavour, since his musical skill will be reduced for this piece by 1. Of course he could wait for three months to reduce the penalty towards 0. But then he won´t be able to introduce it at the art show.

I'd say this might work on a musical piece or theater script, as you just rip the part you don't like and write it again, but for a painting or sculpture (Artist work), I see more problematic, as once you botch it you probably have to begin anew...

Many artists draw sketches, before they begin with "the real work". Van Gogh for example did many studies with different colours and materials before finally composing the light background for some of his works. Sculptours often did samples of proportions and the like with minor materials (e.g. plaster cast), before working with marble or granite.

Sure, but the possibility of botching it existed, unlike writings, that can be partially ripped...

And BTW, Huillaume has never tried to write nor compose (and he better don't try, as his music skill is that of a swine herd), but has done some paintings,one of which had to "blanked and painted again" because he did not like the result.

I'll definitely look at improving, but in the meantime I'm thinking of making a triumphant success any piece that has at least a single SCR of 1 and where at least half the rolls are 1 or 2, to make it more likely.

The other option is to only roll once for each piece, but there's obviously an issue there with ability improvement. (Although I could just allow an improvment on a roll of 5 or 6 each month).

How does that sound?

I like the idea of one roll at the end of the length of time used for the piece.

In my opinion there should be some recompense for the time working on a work / piece / play. If someone only works for the minimum amount of time on it, he should get a penalty (i.e. rolling as if his ability is 1 point less). On the other hand if someone invests really much time on it, there should be a bonus on the ability score.

For example:

2 weeks of work: -1 on SCR roll

3-4 weeks: no penalty / bonus

5-8 weeks: +1 on SCR roll

9+ weeks: +2 on SCR roll

More weeks also mean more SPs, so I don't see it as necessary, but i agree that is agueable.

If accepted, though, I'd suggest to modify the Ability, not the die roll (as for MA modifiers)
