Comte Lagarde de Deois wins Parisian Lottery
Celebration in high society this month, as Comte Lagarde de Deois won the jackpot in the Parisian lottery. It comes as a surprise to some that someone so respected would play what is sometimes seen as a commoner's game. But Comte Lagarde de Deois explained "as ex Director of the Lottery I wanted to set a good example to the townsfolk and encourage them to get involved. I'm rather embarrassed to have won really, it certainly wasn't my intention".
When asked if this meant he would be giving his winnings to good causes Comte Lagarde de Deois seemingly developed a sudden case of poor hearing as he wandered off without answering the question.

Editor Note:
We are highly honoured to welcome guest columnist Archbishop Delacroix, Inquisitor in the Holy Roman Church. We are sure you will all join us in thanking his excellency in taking time out of his busy schedule to share his divine inspired wisdom with us.
The Greasy Pole
I am rather surprised to see the list of attendees for "Perry Mason and the Case of the Italian Widow". Doctor D'Eath of course is merely continuing a pattern of repeated behaviour and Mlle Valerie is behaving as expected. But it seems somewhat odd to me that Comte de Chevreuse and Viscomte de Dammartinn consider such lowbase humour acceptable entertainment. This is merely an observation and nothing to worry about.
At least the Cardinal's Guard instill a knowledge of correct behaviour, with ex Captain Brigadier d'Blancheur showing his love of family with a visit to Picardy.
I was fascinated by the going ons in court. Comte de Déols spent a large amount of time working, perhaps more than would be standard for a man of his position. I hope he got whatever he was looking for achieved.
Congratulations are due to Viscomte de Dammartinn, both for his titling and for his upcoming fatherhood, a state that is sacred in the eyes of our Lord. Indeed, both Comtess de Déols and Viscomtess de Dammartinn were the subject of much favourable attention at the Royal Ball, although of course Comte de Chevreuse was his ever entertaining self.
I would just like to thank La Voix de Paris for the opportunity to take a closer interest in all of your lives. It has been an enlightening experience.
For God, Church & King.

A letter from West Africa
Dear reader,
As you know, I am currently on a Mission to the heart of darkest West Africa, as part of the Churches efforts to evangelise and educate the heathen natives. (Shame on any of you who thought that’s not so different from my old job in Paris, request extra penance from the new priest when you attend confession this month if you did so).
The place surely is a den on depravity, the various Kingdoms prey on each other to provide captives to sell as slaves, it surely does need the light of our Lord. And even worse, many of the tribes have taken to worshipping the false prophet alongside their heathen idols, so this letter will include a study of their religious practices, in the first of a series to keep you, the modern and not slave taking or heathen Parisien, informed.
1. The Witch Docteurs of Benin
Commonly seen wearing their traditional mask which resembles a vulture or ibis, members this caste frequently gravitate to official official positions such as Royal Executioner or Public Health Inspector, and are always found nowhere near the centre of any conflict.
They offer to cure the natives of any ailment by their witchcraft through application of a ‘fetish’, (which I believe is a small bag filled with leeches and such), often for the small fee of 50 gold which guarantees treatment for life.
They seek victims by sidling up and pretending to be their best buddy, obtaining many free drinks and invitations to zebra racing boxes in the process, and then strike, by hosting parties and not inviting said victim to a party the instant the victim is elsewhere, on a Mission for instance.
Ahem, where was I..
These Docteurs worship spirits, such as Louis-gbara, (sometimes affectionately known as Sam-war) whom they believe controls the destinies of individuals by rolling sheeps’ knuckles to determine the individuals fate in life. Indeed, I was lucky enough to be presented by a charm – called a Bougidure knuckle, from a native, which he assured me would protect me from certain death, and grant me the spirits favour in procuring wealth and my future promotion.

The Case of Perry Mason and the Italian Widow
Oh, dear. I think the best that can be said for this latest outing for Perry Mason is that it was not quite as tawdry as the last one. Standard Archduke's Men fare with double entendres drowning out any semblance of the plot that may have been in the original writing. If I am to be charitable I will say that Mlle Johi did better than I expected in her role as the Italian Widow, at least managing to remember her lines and get them in roughly the right order. If you enjoy obvious smut this should be up your rather grubby street. If not, I advise looking elsewhere.
- Baroness Dupoint
Wahey, I'd like to go up Mlle Johi's grubby street, no what I mean boys, eh eh! Ignore Baroness hoitypants, this was bloody excellent! Good old fashioned humour about misunderstandings, romance and ugly men dressed as girls. Top entertainment, lads.

Reports from the Front by General Georges Boulle (rtd.)
Got your letter, Lagarde de Bearne. If you don't feel ready for staff command yet, obvious answer. Some of the frontier regiments could do with an experienced commander. How about it, lad? Show the troops what a National Hero can do.
Spanish Frontier
Good start to the war. Several enemy fortifications fell. Nice work from the lads. Especially impressive from the Anjou Dragoons and the Frontier Regiment. Crown Prince Curiassers didn't see any action, but keeping their strength in reserve for next month should stand us in good stead. Keep it up.
Flanders
Regular patrols kept the enemy under control. Need to keep an eye out in case they're planning anything sneaky, but looking alright so far.
Lorraine
Stayed in barracks most of the month. Enemy getting a bit antsy, RNHB due to move here make sure they don't get out of hand.
Savoy
Enemy nowhere to be seen. Think we can assume peace for now.
Next month:
Spanish Frontier HL 10 WAR Field
Flanders Frontier HL 3 On Alert Field
Lorraine Frontier HL 3 On Alert Field
Savoy Frontier HL 1 Peace Garrison

Comtess Yvonne De Villepin – A Romantic Interlude
I'm glad to hear that poor tragic dear Sieur D'Blancheur has found happiness again with lovely Mlle Rigel!!! I admire Mlle Rigel's willingness to take on the responsibility of a small child and her high moral character makes her an excellent role model for any young lady!!! While I know that it must be difficult for Sieur D'Blancheur to love again I think his religious nature makes him and Mlle Rigel a very good match and I'm sure his dearly departed would agree!!! I do understand why Mlle Valerie was unable to resist the charms of Baron Bonnet with him being both a titled noble and a Captain in the Royal Foot Guards he is a very good catch indeed dear but I can't help feeling bad for poor Subaltern Boucard and the way you have thrown him to one side which must be made worse by the fact he can't even challenge Baron Bonnet for satisfaction because of having joined the Royal Foot Guards on your advice if I recall correctly!!!

Didn't I invest 150 livres in this venture? When do we receive the profits? Not directly otherwise it's multiples in 1000. Did you go through AUB? If so, he has responsibility for that not me! I only track it when people give him money and when he gives them money.
