Father Chatten Found Not Guilty on All Charges
Respected member of the Parisian clergy Father Chatten has been found unanimously innocent of the charges of "living extravagently" by an ecclesiastical tribunal. The Tribunal went onto suggest that the charges were "malicious slander of a holy and devoted man of the cloth, probably by an enemy of the Holy Roman Church".
The main charges centered on a house occupied by Father Chatten. As was pointed out by star witness Comte Bougiedure (invited to witness by none other then the Inquisitor himself), the house was in fact his, provided to Father Chatten to help tend to the spirituality of the peasants of his estate.
As Father Chatten's advocate Monsieur de Croiseus pointed out, this was a matter of respect for the Church itself from Comte Bougiedure and it would have not only been unwise, but inappropriate for Father Chatten to turn down such a generous gift on behalf of The Lord.
When the prosecuting attorney Monsieur le Berchier only offered a technical condemnation on behalf of the tribunal, the outcome could be in no doubt.
Not only has Father Chatten been found not guilty, he has been entirely vindicated. Indeed, his recent behaviour has been formally found to be not only acceptable but commendable.
It is however suggested that he perhaps should take it on himself to teach his good friend Doctor D'Eath how to address men of the cloth appropriately as the Inquisitor has gently suggested some correction is necessary.

Editor Note:I am happy to welcome our guest columnist, Monsieur Ymbelet Dufresne. Many of you will know Monsieur Dufresne as the leading man in the Archduke's Men, where he has had many triumps. Next month he takes the starring role of Perry Mason in "Perry Mason and the Italian Widow". The Greasy Pole
Ah, ladies and gentleman of Paris. I'm sure I need no introduction, so instead I shall get straight onto the drama of the month! The Spring Ball (hosted by the lovely Mlle Valanon) was a rather sparsely attended affair, but those that did attend seemed to have a rather fancy time of things. The merchant Monsieur Balls has sadly a rather unglamorous job and so was his and Mlle Johi's costuming equally unglamourous. I don't expect non professionals to reach the dizzy heights of a thespian like myself, naturally. But togas? Really, my loves, that is what I would expect from a student freshly arrived in Paris. Let Mlle Valerie show you how it's done with her Titania costume. Ah, this had it all. Drama, beauty and just a little bit of sauciness. Have you considered trying the stage, my dear? If you need a mentor I would be happy to advise. Perhaps pop by my dressing room after the first night of Perry Mason and the Italian Widow and we can discuss it further? Speaking of the Dramatic Arts, poor Doctor D'Eath found why those in the know do not recommend the Duke's Men. I hear that a faint snoring was heard from the vicinity of Doctor D'Eath's seat. I hope he at least enjoyed the first night party. I do hear there's a much more fun play next month sir and I hope to see you there. Court was a rather sombre affair, with matters of parliment taking priority, but Comte Bougiedure and Mlle Eloise were seen to make an appointment. While they were charming as always, I hear the Royal Steward turned down the request for a Royal Audience and rather brusquely at that! The other big event of the month was I hear organised by the always impressive Mlle Valerie (my dressing room has my name and a big golden star on the door. You can't miss it). But the guest of honour for the dinner party was military man Ensign L'Hopital. As well as Mlle Valerie, Monsieur Balls and Mlle Johi paid their respects. As did Father Chatten, glowing with his piety. And with his cloth painted gold. A very impressive Emperor Constantine costume, sir. The effect was however rather spoilt by the fact this was not in fact a costume party. Perhaps Father Chatten just likes wearing costumes. He is a man of the cloth known to take a close interest in thespian matters, which I rather like. And elsewhere the University saw some excellent lectures with Viscomte de la Azur addressing eager art students, while Doctor D'Eath did his usual stint with fresh faced medical students. It has been a pleasure and I'm sure it has for you. Don't forget the big event of June, Perry Mason and the Italian Widow, at the National Theatre. I hope to see all of you there.

Comtess Yvonne De Villepin – A Romantic Interlude
I am very very excited this month and some of you may know why!!! I am hearing the patter of tiny little feet from not one but two happy couples!!! Congratulations to the de la Azurs and the Lagarde de Bearnes and I am sure that you will make great parents and will be a model to the other gentlemen of Paris!!! I do look forward to the births!!! I am however getting rather worried about Ensign L'Hopital and his seeming lack of interest in the fairer sex entirely!!! Not only is this not good in its own right Ensign it really is no example for the RFG to be setting to the lower regiments so sort it out and I am being stern now because it is beyond a joke!!!

An Ecumenical Matter by Pastor Jacques
Father Chatten has BEEN found not GUILTY of all CHARGES and so his DRINKING and BAWDY ENTERTAINMENT and OSTENTATIOUS has formal backing from the ROMAN church and who am I to DISAGREE?
The good FATHER gave a SERMON this month to PRAISE the royal EXECUTIONER. Apparently Father Chatten APPROVES of De'Ath's behaviour.
A sermon, provided by Father Chatten.
Dearly beloved.
We come together today to celebrate the achievements of our august Docteur, and I call on everyone to take some time to reflect on these.
Bastien will be fondly remembered by the church for his arduous, never ending work as Royal Headsman. He has diligently removed the heads of probably loads of enemies of the crown. At great personal cost sent possibly thousands of unrepentant sinners to suffer into Purgatory and Hell. We in Paris can sleep soundly in our beds at night due to his never ending vigil and pursuit of fiscal gain and status our foes, and he probably single handedly keeps the Spanish at bay, as they’ll never dare attack Paris with such an illustrious Executioner defending us.
Prior to this, he excelled as Public Health Inspector, single handedly removing a perfidious healer from court by getting himself banned from entry.
Personally, I am so glad to see he has been so richly rewarded for his stalwart efforts in these two Offices, earning perhaps wealth beyond the dreams of Croesus, and almost infinite status from his efforts.
A proud son of Picardy, he did the Region a great service in not joining their Regiment as Surgeon, and inflicting himself on Aquitane instead.
As the new leading Barrister in Paris, he has single handedly defended me in court, against all odds (maybe nearly) managing to get my verdict overturned from innocent to guilty, and ensuring I wasn’t just given a slap on the wrists, but suffered whatever the Inquisitor did to me last week too.
And he humbly call himself just a Docteur. I for one am going to double, no treble my monthly fees paid to him for medical help, and I wholeheartedly beseech anyone else receiving those services for free too to do likewise.
This sermon is dedicated to Bastian, a man obviously protected by St Simeon Salus and St Christina the Astonishing both.

Reports from the Front by General Georges Boulle (rtd.)
Spanish Frontier
A reasonable month here as we prepare for war next month. Lagarde de Bearne's tactics were good, but yet again he's refused to take a command position and serve his country properly. Perhaps he plans a return to the more genteel environs of the Court?
Flanders
More success here as the enemy were driven from the Front. We've now pacified this area I'm happy to say.
Lorraine
Superior numbers won the day here. We won't be seeing much trouble from the enemy here for a bit. D'Blancheur gets himself another field promotion, hopefully so he can use his obvious ability in higher commands.
Promotions: Arnold D'Blancheur
Savoy
Again, our new "overwhelm" policy bears fruit as the enemy flee. The RNHB will be here in June, from their standards a nice break from the norm!
Next month:
Spanish Frontier HL 10 WAR Siege
Flanders Frontier HL 2 Garrison Garrison
Lorraine Frontier HL 1 Peace Garrison
Savoy Frontier HL 2 Garrison Garrson

OOC: I guess the second "flanders" is in fact Lorraine, as it was there where AB was serving...
