This is pretty much how you've all been playing already, but it's worth having written down for new players.
All posts in "Welcome to Liminal Dreams En Garde!" are out of character. That's pretty much common sense. If someone asks how the spying rules work don't assume they're a spy!
Everything else is in character knowledge and can be known by any player who wishes to.
The Parisian social scene is a very gossipy place. And the higher Social Level characters will have servants, who will also gossip. So keeping things like duel challenges or appointment applications secret is impossible.
This even applies to the Greasy Pole. While "Social Level" is obviously an in game abstraction you're all fully aware of where you are in the Parisian pecking order.
To keep things secret between characters use the IM system or email. (Please copy myself and Rhi into any private communications!) You can even contact NPCs this way, although some may be more likely to respect confidentality than others.
The Mole is a special case. He isn't omniponent and isn't going to be played as such by the GMs. But it is the case that he's very well informed and may find out about things you're trying to keep secret.
(All of this is the current situation. At some point I may look more at secret actions etc.)
