An Apology to Father Gerard Chatten
Due to an error from our typesetter, in the last issue of La Voix de Paris an article by Pastor Jacques was wrongly attributed to respected priest, Father Gerard Chatten. This was particularly unfortunate as Father Chatten is of the view that the article contained some implied theological criticisms of his viewpoint.
While La Voix de Paris prides itself on representing a diversity of viewpoints, obviously this kind of error is not protected by that and is entirely unacceptable.
We would like to publicly apologise to Father Chatten for any offense caused and have made a large donation to the Church on his behalf.
We would also like to apologise to Pastor Jacques for the mix up in proper accreditation and would hope he no longer feels the need to stand outside our office shouting at us daily.

Lagarde de Bearne Family Under Curse?
While this paper would not normally give space to superstition, it has come to attention that an increasing number of those with experience dealing with the supernatural are paying attention to the misfortune of the Lagarde de Bearne family.
Not only did the current Viscomte Lagarde de Bearne lose both his oldest brother and father in recentaccidents, only this month more tragedy struck the family. Lagarde de Bearne is now mourning his dear mother and his racehorse, King of Spain. It has also been brought to our attention that several of his military aides have met untimely demises.
Are the Lagarde de Bearne family under some kind of ancient curse, perhaps placed upon them by an elderly gypsy woman? Or is there merely appalling coincidence? Time will surely tell.
Viscomte de Macque killed in fight
Viscomte de Macque has been fatally stabbed in a tavern brawl. Several of his gambling associates are currently under arrest and other suspects are not currently being sought. The family has asked for privacy at this difficult time. The title will be taken up by the rightful heir, Jean de Macque. Considering the families known financial difficulties, he will surely hope to turn their fortunes around and restore their position in society.

The Social Whirlwind by Le Mole
Another month and I'm afraid it looks no more entertaining than the last one.
I do hear that Viscomte Bougiedure took pity on the unforgivably dull Sieur D'Blancheur and took him out drinking. The good Viscomte is to be congragulated for his commitment to charitable cases.
Unfortunately, apart from Father Chatten's theatre visit and certain things lesser writers insist on covering (art, Madame Duschene's Ball), the only other event of note was Viscomte Bougiedure's titling ceremony. Viscomte Bougidure attended in the company of Baron de la Azur and was seen paying his respects, although I'm sad to report that Baroness Genevieve seemed as bored as I feel. Sieur D'Blancheur naturally was working while the great and good of Parisian society mixed.
Seasonal greeting and may 1633 be less dull.

Comtess Yvonne De Villepin – A Romantic Interlude
I have to say I am rather surprised if not disappointed to hear from my good friend Madame Duschene that the Debutante's Ball was rather sparsely attended by the young gentlemen of Paris and the lovely young ladies in attendance were somewhat starved of dancing partners!!! I feel the need to be especially stern with Doctor D'Eath who I am assured was invited and yet in the week of the Ball I hear he was seen heading yet again into the Lady's Slipper and I am beginning to think you have a problem young man!!! Still Monsieur Balls seems to have enjoyed himself and I hope this will give him the courage to pay court to one of Paris' many eligible young ladies next month even if he may wish to take some dancing lessons not to be unkind!!! But the big event of the ball was that it seems that the ever charming Viscomte Bougiedure has managed to make Eloise see the error of her fickle ways and I'm sure she has learnt his lesson and I wish them much happiness together!!! I am also pleased to say that I hear that the aforementioned Doctor D'Eath has been seen spending time in the company of our Scottish flower Mlle Angnes and I do hope he has seen the error of his ways and such a virtuous young lady is bound to be a good influence on him!!! I am very worried that the D'Blancheurs were not seen together in public all month and I do hope everything is ok and if it's not remember love conquers all problems!!!

Celeste Ludenburg - La Gallerie Veritie
I would not say I am glad, for that it an emotion my dark soul can no longer feel since the death of my love. But I am not unglad to hear that Baron de la Azur has taken my advice and taken up painting professionally. With our young lady artists also producing, perhaps the dark ages in Parisian art have finally ended. Even if the rest of life is still black, perhaps that is some small comfort on our inevitable journey to the grave.
Press release from the Archduke's Men
The Archduke's Men are pleased to announce that their March show will be "Perry Mason and the Case of the Missing Lottery ticket" an exciting legal drama from practising advocate Monsieur Balls. Monsieur Balls real life legal experience makes this not to be missed, as he promises to show us the saucy side of the law.

An Ecumenical Matter by Pastor Jacques
Father CHATTEN has joined the JESUITS leaving the FRANCISCANS behind. I am sure this is THEOLOGICAL and it is sheer COINCIDENCE that the JESUITS are a better fit for the political AMBITIOUS Papist. It is also GOOD to see that his MIDNIGHT Mass was well attended, where he preached on the importance of LOVE and Viscomte Bougidure and lastly JESUS. It was attended by many NOBLE as suits his AMBITION.

Editorial Note: We have had it raised that Pastor Jacques is a theological minority in Paris. While we are proud of our tradition of giving a space for minority voices we have provided this for balance. We would like to thank Father Chatten for providing us with a copy of his Midnight Mass sermon for publication.
Another view with Father Chatten
During the Mass in which we celebrate our Father displaying his love for mankind by giving us his Son, I would like to ruminate that, there are many kinds of love.
Viscomte Bougiedure manifests this.
We can consider the love of a man for his Country. Viscomte Bougiedure's Croix du Roi is proof he is prepared to accept the physical hardship, and disdain personal safety, for love of and in service to La France.
Love of man for his fellow man. Again Viscomte Bougidure manifests this. Just this month, with no gain to himself, Viscomte Bougiedure took time out of his busy personal schedule, to advise myself on Judicial matters when he discovered I was considering slander charges, thus saving me from any considerable embarrassment had I proceeded.
Love of family – just look at the care Viscomte Bougiedure is showering on his brother, hiring a physician at great cost.
Alas, Le good Viscomte, for all the love he shows others, sadly lacks another type of love. The love of a woman for her man. May I assure him that Our Father has shown this is the natural order, and he is in our prayers, so that he shortly meets a lady who will love him with all the ardour a man, who has shown he is so full of love for others, deserves.

Reports from the Front by General Georges Boulle (rtd.)
De La Azur has stood down from the Dragoon Guards. Swapped his sabre for a paintbrush. Good luck to the lad. He's done his duty.
New arrival Subaltern L'Hopital has not only joined the Royal Foot Guards but been instantly appointed aide to Brigadier-General Lagarde de Bearne. Perhaps their families drink port together.
Spanish Frontier
Month in the barracks. Bit of increase in enemy activity, but nothing to worry about so far.
Flanders
Inconclusive fighting here. No clear winner, but both sides are scaling down their operations and moving to heightened alert next month.
Lorraine
Garrison duty here and we did well, with the enemy being given a sound thrashing when they tried to ambush us. Glad to say they've given up now. Normandy Regiment to come home early.
Savoy
New command for Lagarde de Bearne as he takes over command of the brigade here. Not great, not bad. Another month of unclear fighting.
Next month:
Spanish Frontier HL 3 On Alert Defense
Flanders Frontier HL 3 On Alert Field
Lorraine Frontier HL 1 Peace Garrison
Savoy Frontier HL 3 On Alert Field

Did this happen in paris or in Provence? If the latter, who would judge the case?

OOC: Isn't murder a High Crime, tried by the Minister of State (still an NPC)? I don't think in the 17th Century that there was a distinction between murder and manslaughter.

OOC: Ah, good point. I hadn't realised that lack of distinction. As it's NPCs, I think we'll try them all with one roll.
