The Social Whirlwind by Le Mole
Can we give a round of applause to Monsieur Durant please, ladies and gentlemen? No reason, I just felt like we should all Clap him.
In entirely unrelated news, while Monsieur Durant apparently had no time to enjoy the company of the ladies, he did make space to go see a highly reputable docteur for unspecified reasons. How very odd.
It does seem that Monsieur Durant's rapid rise in social status has not only come to a grinding halt but gone into reverse. The good merchant has been expelled from the Blue Gables club for "bringing the club's good name into disrepute". Hopefully he'll be able to capitalise on this scandal and use it to propel himself forwards.
I am pleased to hear that notable philistine Baron D'avranches has decided to acquaint himself with the joys of culture, attending the opera this month. Although, sadly, I hear that opera is really not the forte of the Archduke's Men. Apparently the line between "singing" and "shouting" was rather blurred. While not an absolute flop, perhaps next time they may be better playing to their strengths of dirty puns and fake bosoms.
Congratulation are however due to Baron D'avranches on his titling ceremony. As always, the Baron has the ability to function in society of a man who has spent large portions of his life at the front, but I'm sure the pension and lands help compensate for the social embarrassment.
Perhaps he should ask his friend Sieur D'Blancheur for help? I understand he rather impressed the great and good while commanding the Cardinal's Guard at court.

Romantic Interlude
By Yvonne de Villepin
I am very excited!!! After Sieur d'Blancheur was so cruelly treated by someone who we shall not mention it seems he has found love again and he and Mme Murieldis have announced their engagement and will be getting married soon and it is good to see such a perfectly suited couple!!! Perhaps poor Monsieur Durant can take heart that even if certain ladies are unreasonably cold it doesn't mean giving up hope of finding a lady entirely and he should persevere!!!

Reports from the Front by General Georges Boulle (rtd.)
Step forward everyone who got accepted in the Nightwatch this month. Not so fast, Segal. Have you considered joining a frontier regiment? Allows you to battle against enemies more dangerous than whores and pickpockets.
Interesting to see d'Blancheur is now Captain of the Cardinal's Guard. Not your standard toff. Has some real experience at the frontier. Good to see.
Spanish Frontier
Credit where it's due. Might have given a hard time to Brigadier-General Lagarde de Bearne in the past, but the lad did well this month. His hit and run tactics helped turn the tide of battle, made up for the enemy outnumbering us. Good show, lad. See what you can do when you concentrate on the battlefield rather than your purse? Enemy has had to fall back, allowing our lads to take a more active approach in July.
Flanders
Mixed results at Flanders. Army overall did ok, but not well. Frontier Regiment showed their mettle, but the second Brigade got themselves in victory. Heavy fighting between the third brigade and the enemy. Captain Bougiedure distinguished himself with his bravery and common sense again. Starting to get almost impressed with that lad.
Mentions in Dispatches: Jacques Bougiedure
Lorraine
Didn't manage to make a breakthrough here. Managed to hold the enemy off but only just. Heavy casualties as well. Not good. We'll need to keep ourselves defending next month just to stop them overrunning us.
Savoy
Progress here is slow, but real. Managed to make advances on the enemy, which I'm happy about. Anjou Dragoons did especially well. Good show, lads. Not good for the Normandy Regiment though. Got themselves chased from the field, taking heavy casualties in the process.
Deaths: Francois Alaire
Next month:
Spanish Frontier HL 7 Incursion Field
Flanders Frontier HL 10 WAR Field
Lorraine Frontier HL 10 WAR Defense
Savoy Frontier HL 10 WAR Siege
