In game terms, better than finding she is suddenly virtuous!

As Destitute appears to be the antithesis of Wealthy, I suggest Lusty as an antithesis to Virtuous. A Lusty mistress (or wife) is twice as likely to get pregnant. A player gets an extra 2 SP from a Lusty mistress. A Lusty mistress is not Promiscuous but Liaison attempts (not Courting attempts) are at +1 chance [ Rational here is that a Lusty mistress might accept a roll in the hay from a side piece but wouldn't be more likely to throw over her beau in favor of a quickie]. A Lusty mistress demands carousing twice a month (or suffer a loyal check, excused for being at the Front, on expedition, or if the mistress is on Les Vacation) and roistering whenever carousing. The character does not need to roister but must pay for his mistress’ roistering and suffers the results of his mistress’ drunkenness. Failed loyalty check results in her terminating the relationship to find a man better able to satisfy her. One may add that a lusty mistress requires her beau to be with her once a month at least. Any month without him being in her company, so to say when she has to live abstinental, all other courting or liaising attempts are at a +1 bonus per month she is living abstinental. On the contrary if a lusty mistress is at least twice a month together with her beau, she doesn´t need any support. Alternatively: A lusty mistress needs less support the more often she is together with her beau. At 2 weeks she needs 2 times her SL, at 3 weeks 1 time her SL in Livres and if she is all four weeks of a month together with her beau, she doesn´t need any support.

New draft of the FC rules. Female Companionship Rules.pdf (155.05 KB) Few notes. I haven't been able to get the idea of mistresses spending time outside of Paris to work without being overly harsh on low SL PCs. I like your ideas Guy, but I think they're probably too restrictive for those at the front and the second involves a level of bookkeeping I think would lead to me making too many mistakes! There's been a lot of revisions and expansions so I won't cover them all but some highlights. A wife is now worth an extra SP which should please some of you. Expanded rules for husbands taking mistresses and the divorce cases they may cause! It is now somewhat easier to liaise fiancees and wifes. They still get a healthy Loyalty bonus but a penalty on top of that felt too much like doubling down and making it impossible. Doctors now give a much bigger bonus to the health rolls for miscarriages and births. Thinking there is that "helping a bit" should be the default and actively harming the roll should be a rare event.

There are several references to modifiers based on mistress’ social level. Usually it is at her current SL but I can see some occasions where using her starting SL would make more sense. A female companion’s SL rises based on her beau’s monthly SP creating a situation where the player will never receive a positive modifier for loyalty and family visits.
Recommend that loyalty checks, family visits, and dowry be based on the FC’s original SL. The family visit and dowry are based on the family’s SL which is presumed to be the same as the FC’s original SL. For the loyalty check we infer that the SL rise experienced by the FC during association with the PC is not held against him.
Alternatively, the SL difference modifier could remain but add another modifier for the change in SL from her original (gratitude for increased social standing)

My thinking there is that a Mistress that raises in SL is likely to expect a better quality of life. And that one will come into play sometimes; mistresses of higher SL don't always rise at the same rate and someone lucky enough to have a mistress six SLs higher than them will have trouble catching up. And the addition of more traits that give bonus SPs is likely to make lower SL mistresses more appealing, as long as there isn't an active penalty. But on the others, yes. I agree it doesn't make a lot of sense that a merchant family will stop being impressed by a member of the nobility just because their daughter's SL has risen alongside it, nor does her rise in status lead to them having more money for the dowry.

According Huillaume's experience with Emelin family, this was already being done. It was with dowry, but wasn't with the SL modifier if I recall correctly and should definitely be clarified in the rulebook!

It was also with the Influence Emelin's family gave to Huillaume on his visit to them (and I guess it would have been in Emelin's family had given him money), and I already found it logical then.

Yeah, it was definitely the case with gifts. I think a lot of this comes down to the fact there's a lot of sensible stuff in how I've been running things like that, but they need to be in the rules, not just my head!

Should Noble rank be a positive modifier to the loyalty and family reactions of non-noble FCs?

Should Noble rank be a positive modifier to the loyalty and family reactions of non-noble FCs? Rank is too powerful I think. It would mean a Duc was automatically adored by any non Noble family. Rank divided by 2 maybe?

Certainly. What I am going for is the prospect of aligning with a noble family would have a favorable effect on the opinion of the FC and her family.
Is see that there is already a loyalty modifier for nobles PCs so no need for an additional modifier.

Question on the mechanics of loyalty and I will use myself as a specific case:
1. JBO departed for the front in March and did not visit ElB that month but no negative modifier because there was a visit in February. 2. In April, ElB's modifier for no visit is at -2 for two consecutive months without a visit (March and April) 3. By August, ElB's modifier for no visit is at -6 for six consecutive months without a visit 4. If JBO visits ElB in September Week 1, does the modifier for no visits reset to zero or does it reduce over time? 5. Does any weekly order that includes ElB count as a "visit" (i.e. attending a class with ElB at Madame Duschene's or sitting for a joint portrait)

What dice are rolled when a loyal check fails (and subsequent months). I assume 1D6 but it is not clear. Also, what modifiers are in play?

The modifier resets to zero. It's the idea that a mistress left along for months is likely to be tempted to wander. It's also worth noting that there's a mod of +2 loyalty for anyone at the front, so it only gets into penalties in the last month. (And I'm tempted to raise that to +3 so there's an active bonus for two months and no penalty for a standard campaign). *Most* weekly orders that include ElB count as a "visit", but there's an element of discretion in that case. The two examples you mention would be fine; they're both romantic enough. If you'd done nothing with her but attend classes with her for three months I might point out you'll need to do something different to retain loyalty the month after. And I reserve the right to give negative loyalty modifiers if Alain Durant decides that he'll take her to work in the shop or Valentino gets his mistress cleaning out the regimental barracks.
