The Social Whirlwind by Le Mole
You really are an odd bunch. We have a gigantic campaign coming up, so are you all partying like there's no tomorrow? No, most of you have decided to go to the front early.
Even the Derby, the biggest event of the season suffered. In fact, only Sieur d'Blancheur was able to attend with his lovely mistress Mmle. Murieldis. Still, considering how terribly your horses did, perhaps that's for the best.
At least Sieur de la Azur was willing to fly the flag for the importance of social France. The good chevalier was the guest of honour at the Dutch Ambassador's ball. And the outfits worn by Sieur de la Azur and Mme. Mureldis were very impressive. The latest fashions, all in the red of the Dragoon Guards. This was impressive it its own right, but especially from a man notorious for his extreme frugality.
At the other end of the social spectrum, I'm glad to say that the peasant Valentino has finally found a club willing to accept his membership. He seems very pleased with himself. So much so, that he spent half the month drinking at his new club Red Phillips. (Alongside what seems to be becoming a regular habit of visiting the Lady's Slipper. Maybe he's hoping for full membership when his social standing rises?)

Reports from the Front by General Georges Boulle (rtd.)
Seems like the Normandy Regiment is the recruitment pool of choice for the General Staff. Brigadier Generals Lagarde de Bearne and D'avranches both chose to draw their aides from the regiment, with newly enlisted Subalterns Ecrou and Alaire being signed up to serve. Good move in my view. Good bunch of lads the Normandy Regiment. Know the realities of battle.
Back in Paris, Segal bought himself a commission as a Subaltern in the Paris Guard. Got turned down for the Nightwatch though. Commander thinks that role needs people not so new to Paris they're still asking for directions.
Spanish Frontier
Not good news from here, with our lads being forced to make an orderly retreat. Gascon Regiment did ok, but Spanish Frontier Regiment took a heavy beating I'm afraid.
Flanders
Would have been worse at Flanders, if not for the heroics of the Queen’s Own Carabiniers. The Frontier Regiment still saw heavy casualties, but at least we managed to keep the enemy at bay.
Lorraine
I am going to be bloody blunt. This was mostly a tale of bad commmand. Made worse by the fact that the worst of all was the bloody army commander and I don't care if he minds me saying that. This lead to issues right now the chain of command, with the Picardy Muskeeters and King's Curiassers both taking the brunt of enemy storming parties.
Has to be said, impressed with Brigadier D'Avaranches. New to the role and he more then justified the appointment. Had the sense to order the third brigade to prioritise minimising casualties rather than glory. Made up for the idiot of an army commander. Fully deserves his Croix du Roi. Lad is gonna go far if he can avoid dying.
Same can't be said for Brigadier-General Lagarde de Bearne who was so busy encouraging his men to gain riches he seems to have forgotten to remind them not to die. Given a new bar on his medal for it though. Personally, I'd rather he'd avoided the need for bravery by using actual strategy but who am I to question the men in charge.
Mentions in Dispatches: Hulluame LaGarde de Bearne, Guy D'Avaranches Medals: Hulluame LaGarde de Bearne, Guy D'Avaranches
Savoy
It came at a cost, but I'm glad to say the assault on the Savoy Frontier succeeded. All the regiments did well here, with the French Guard cutting through the enemy and the Frontier Regiment charging again and again. Special mention goes to the 1st Squadron of the Dragoon Guards under the able command of Captain Bougiedure whose bravery helped swing the battle.
Mentions in dispatches: Jacques Bougiedure
Next month:
Spanish Frontier HL 7 Incursion Defense
Flanders Frontier HL 9 Invasion Field
Lorraine Frontier HL 10 WAR Defense
Savoy Regiment HL 4 Raiding Field
