Reports from the Front by General Georges Boulle (rtd.)
Glad to say Captain Lagarde de Bearne has finally decided to get his hands dirty and do some actual fighting. Good to hear. Hope you do well. Pretty fraught month. Sad to say we had a lot of casualties.
Spanish Frontier
No clear winner, with both side bearing heavy losses. The Gascon Regiment especially had a hard time of it, being driven from the field. With the Spanish Frontier Regiment being bogged down in a stalemate not seeing much change in the state of play here.
Flanders
Even worse at Flanders, with the full division being forced to retreat. Terrible casualties. Looks like we're going to be facing a full incursion next month, which considering we have no regiments but the Frontier Regiment there currently could be a real bloody issue.
Lorraine
Clashes bloody everywhere this month. The RNHB showed its worth again, stopping an already bad situation getting worse, but the King's Curiassers were forced to retreat under musket fire. Worst of was the Frontier Regiment. I'm going to say this bloody straight up. This situation was down to how bloody bad the command was. The commmander paid in blood for it, but so did the whole bloody regiment. Including the companies of the Royal Foot Guards and the Picardy Musketeers, the latter losing its own commander in the chaos. RIP Lieutenant Colonel Fitzabrose. Captain LaGarde de Bearne managed to survive (although I hear his idea of tactics was just shouting "don't die!" hysterically). For some reason this is apparently enough to get him breveted to Brigadier General. All hands on deck next month lads. It's time for WAR.
Promotions: Hulluame LaGarde de Bearne
Deaths: Gulluame Fitzabroase
Savoy
More promising results here. From most regiments at least. The French Guard got themselves lead into a trap by the now deceased Colonel Bonbeur. I don't want to speak ill of the dead. You know me lads, furthest thing on my mind. But I will say that if the French Guard had been led better the results would have been better as well. On the other hand, Captain Bougiedure of the Dragoon Guards lead his Squadron independently and impressed greatly. The Squadron smashed again and again into the enemy ranks, causing them to rout several times. More of that please. Well deserved, that title. I also hear that several of our boys were killed trying to escape from Austrian jail but the Austrians have released no details of their identity. Bloody savages.
Mentions in dispatches: Jacques Bougiedure
Titles: Jacques Bougiedure
Deaths: Jean Bonbeur, Jacques de Blanc
Summer Campaign
I hear we're going all out this year, with armies being sent to Flanders, Lorraine and Savoy. More details when we have them, but don't expect to be staying in Paris this summer.
Next month:
Spanish Frontier HL 6 Skirmishing Field
Flanders Frontier HL 7 Incursion Field
Lorraine Frontier HL 10 WAR Defense
Savoy Regiment HL 6 Skirmishing Assault
