The Arrest and Dramatic Escape of 'Emperor' Claud
Scourge of polite Parisian society and self proclaimed Emperor of Paris, Claud D'Applaud, has been cited on charges of attempted murder.
An arrest was made at the beginning of the month at Hunters. The CPS has given special mention to the Dragoon Guards for their help in restraining Monsieur D'Applaud allowing the arrest to be made.
Unfortunately, Monsieur D'Applaud managed to break free from the arresting party and quickly escaped into the grounds of a local church, where he is being given sanctuary by Father Coco.
The priest tells us "while I understand that Monsieur D'Applaud has outraged public decency recently, there are some signs of mental instability which makes him a victim, not a criminal and I hope the Parisian authorities will see that".
The CPS seemingly disagrees as the trial will take place in the first week of January in the absence of Monsieur D'Applaud. Lancelot l'Angoisseur is the prosecuting attorney on behalf of the crown.

The Social Whirlwind by Le Mole
Really, my dears, there is only one social event worth talking about this month. I refer, of course, to the party hosted by Sieur de La Azur. However, I must say, I am starting to feel that Sieur de la Azur doesn't quite understand what his social position requires. Having lower class servants is one thing, but one doesn't involve the hired help to your parties! I might just overlook Lieutenant-Colonel Fitzabraose, who one assumes was invited because of the respect one military man has for another. But the squalid little moneygrubber Monsieur Durant? Really Sieur de la Azur? How precisely is that appropriate? At least Sieur Bonbeur, Monsigneur de la Bassée, Sieur D'Avaranches and Sieur Bougiedure are suitable friends for one of his station. And Sieur Bougiedure certainly knows how to have a good time, drinking the rest of the party under the table! The rest of you could learn from his example.
I was amused to see that all of Baron Lagarde de Bearne's hard work with the lottery has been repaid by... the appointment of Sieur de la Azur as Director. Perhaps he has friends in high places or alternatively maybe the Baron has picked up some enemies somewhere?

Romantic Interlude
By Yvonne de Villepin
It seems that Baron and Baroness la Garde de Bearne may have started something of a trend!!! Many congratulations to Sieur de la Azur and Baroness Geneieve on their newly announced engagement I do hear that the Baroness' family positively adore the thought of having a war hero in the family which I am sure will lead to a long and happy marriage!!! I was also impressed by Guy D'avranches insistence on giving a wedding gift to the la Garde de Bearnes as soon as he returned from the front and the solid gold box and rare Far Eastern silks will surely take pride of place in their martial home!!! However while I normally approve of new relationships I have to say I do think that Mme Sabilina should have been given time to think about her recent behaviour but instead Lieutenant-Colonel Fitzabraose has swept her up I'm only glad poor Arnold is at the front and doesn't have to see them together!!! Although Sieur D'avaranches has managed to finally impress the infamously unpleasable Mme Mimi and I'm sure she made the right decision!!! Sadly the same fortune was not had by Monsieur Faure who turned up three weeks in a row to court Mme. Celeste to no avail and I don't want to criticise a colleague but I will point out that I don't think your comment about where he should stick his turnip was very polite dear!!!

Horse Racing News
January sees the Futurity in Week 3, a race for all horses of 3 years old. Perhaps some of our new horse owners will be seen cheering on their horses?

ROME and its influence on the Parisian church
By Pastor Jacques
I am not saying Sieur BOUGIEDURE has a GUILTY conscience but he did seem to donate a LOT of money to Monsigneur Adam de la Bassée's Midnight MASS. I think they might be called INDULGENCES and I hear he did INDULGE at a PARTY right after the Mass. Sieur de la AZUR and the BARONESS also did enjoy the POPISH Mass and FITZBROASE did see fit to show off his new FLOOZY despite her recent BEHAVIOUR. In fact ATTENDANCE was UP as I see Sieur BONBEUR and Mme Joya also attended. Sieur Bonbeur also attended the FUNERAL service earlier. And Monsieur CHAMP was seen in a PEASANT church in the last part of the MONTH. I do hear that the BISHOP of SENS has volunteered to RETIRE after some money was found RESTING in his ACCOUNT.
