Per the wiki for Henry IV (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Henry_IV_of_France) Gaston is the last surviving son of Henri IV. To determine the Crown Prince, I have had to go back to find descendants on one of the cadet branches of the House of Bourbon. The likeliest candidate is Henri II de Bourbon, Prince of Conde: King Henry III of France died in August 1589, when Henri was less than one year old, and was succeeded by Henry IV of France, who was the first cousin of Henri's late father, and Henri's godfather. At this point, the new king had no son or brother, and his closest agnatic kin was none other than Henri himself. Gaston of Orleans, the Crown Prince, is now King. (Maybe the Crown Prince Cuirassiers should be renamed the King's Own Cuirassiers?)
So far as EG!'s Paris is concerned, he is married to Princess Louisa, who should now be made Queen. (We need a Queen immediately as she appoints to various FPC and NPC Mistress appointments).
We also need a new Crown Prince. Henri, Prince of Condé would certainly suffice, though I was thinking of César, Duke of Vendôme. He was actually a half-brother of Louis XIII who had been legitimised by Henry IV, Louis' father. Since Gaston has no male issue (historically, his only son was born in 1650 and died very young in 1652) César could be declared Gaston's heir by Royal decree. César was opposed to Cardinal Richelieu's erosion of the rights of the nobility, as was Gaston, but now he's the King (whose power increased thanks to the erosion of noble rights) Gaston could come to see the Cardinal as a useful ally and we could immediately get back to business as usual...

Well, while not against history chanes, to say I was surprised would be stopping quite short... This, of course, opens the game to many changes. IIRC Gaston was not in good term with Richelieu, so many posts may be left open and intrigues in the court increasing, as the high nobles maneuver for power ,and hte Cardinal is weakened in its position.. OTOH, it's probable that the new King has no grudge against Huillaume (hey, Gaston (the player), I still swear Huillaume has nothing to do with this) and he can return to the Court, just to give a direct effect in play (the fact we has a player named Gaston is anotehr one  ) |

My view is that we need to keep things normal in terms of most of the mechanics of the game, but not necessarily identical as long as they're straightforward. (Much like the events etc for October). I wouldn't be against bringing more church/crown intrigue into the game if it was simple to implement. Although it's fair to say that Gaston probably is less bothered about the increase in the power of the Crown now.  |

Just some thouhgts about how the situation could develop:
Of course, GaSton view about the power sharing among the King and nobles will change, but he has bee nintriguing for many years for the nobles to keep it, and this has lead to be in bad terms with the Cardinal and to have many nobles among his supporters, and just changing now his view too much will put him at odds with all tnose nobles.
We cannot foret there will be gossip about the possibility, if the King's death is not believed as natural, it was Gaston, not any foreign power who was behind it (after all, I cannot remember a single king murderes by a foreign power in the whole Modern Age, while such incidents inside the Royal Families were not as uncommon)...
I'm not sure who appointed this turn the Governors (that have been just renewed), but I'm not sure Gaston wil lbe happy with some of them, as they are probably more loyal to Louis views o the state than to his.
So, with a new King that would probably be questioned, in bad terms with the Minister of State (Richelieu) and not sure about his governors, I guess he cannot now challenge his supporters by moving against the nobles' power, and sure an intrigues full time expects Paris.
