The Social Whirlwind by Sieur Matheus Mallette
As the humid month of August draws to a close, this writer looks forward to the resumption of the social season. The King enjoyed a month of hunting at the Chateau de Fontainebleau while the Queen entered her confinement.
Gratitude is given to Lord Balls and Chevalier Vendredi for bravely hosting events in the second and fourth weeks respectively in an attempt to break the doldrums in Paris. Lord Balls played host to a party at the Fleur-de-Lys that was attended by Lord and Lady de Bearne, Lieutenant Lete resplendent in a brand new uniform, and Chevalier Vendredi with Madame De’Ath on his arm.
Sadly, the dinner party at the Commissioner for Public Safety’s house in the Belleville district did not achieve similar success, despite his alluring companion playing hostess. I hear tell that Madame De’Ath has been heard to say that the host was extremely upset by the poor turnout but knowing Chevalier Vendredi as I do, I take the young widow assertions with more than a grain of salt.

A Romantic Interlude by Comtessa Yvonne De Villepin
Mdm De’Ath reveled in a joyous reunion with her companion, Chevalier Vendredi, as they were seen together at the Fleur-de-Lys and church in addition to hosting a dinner party.
Lady Balls attended dance class with her husband and the Fleur-de-Lys. Lady de Bearne was seen only at the Lord Balls’ soiree at the Fleur-de-Lys as her husband was otherwise detained for the rest of the month.
Mlle Jaccoud was visited by her beau, Lieutenant Lete only once this month. Perhaps someone should give a hint to the Dragoon officer that a lady likes to be shepherded around town more often.
Lady Bougiedure and Mlle Favre were secluded most of the month, await the return of their heroes from the front.

Financial News by Comte de Money
Finance investors were sorely disappointed as the enemy accosted France on three fronts, causing the bottom to fall out of the market. Arms investors, however, were much more joyous.

Reports from the Front by General Georges Boulle (rtd.)
The First Division crushes their enemy while the other divisions achieve little.
Flanders Frontier
The Second Army was successful in expelling the Spanish from Flanders.
Lorraine Frontier
After the drubbing that they told last month, the Hapsburgs were very keen to avoid a decisive engagement. Marshal Bougiedure was unable to catch his elusive quarry despite a continuation of his bold maneuvering. To be fair, the division and brigade commanders, including Brigadier Buisson, did the Grand Duc little favor as they appears more interest in preparations for a return to Paris than bringing the enemy to battle. Regardless, Marshal Bougiedure received two mentions in dispatch and a Croix de Guerre for his successful conclusion of the campaign.
Savoy Frontier
Another quiet month in garrison.
Spanish Frontier
The Third Army caught the Spanish aware in camp and sent them reeling back across the border.
Next month:
Flanders Frontier HL 1 Peace Garrison
Lorraine Frontier HL 1 Peace Garrison Savoy Frontier HL 3 Alert Field Operations
Spanish Frontier HL 3 Alert Field Operations
