The Racing Form by Lancelot Lémieux
The Paris Debry was quite a surprise this year, very much a contest of age before beauty. The Crown Prince’s own seven-year old The Belle of Languedoc, who had just barely made the field but had a surprisingly good week of trial runs, won the race beating out the favorite, Cardinal Richelieu’s Scarlet Soul who only place third. Even more surprising was Silver Kitten’s second place finish as a 50 to 1 longshot.
1st – The Belle of Languedoc 2nd – Silver Kitten 3rd – Scarlet Soul 4th – Bushy Thicket 5th – Louis d’Or 6th (tie) – Wild Chance 6th (tie) - Wildflame 8th – Firstborn 9th – Lady Arabella 10th – Lady of Flanders 11th – Royal Jester 12th – Abraxas

The Social Whirlwind by Sieur Matheus Mallette
Another quiet social month in Paris.
Lord Balls held a small party at the Fleur-de-Lys in the first week of April, hosting Madame De’Ath and Bishop de Pooh. A good time was had by all, apparently. The Archbishop of Paris slaked his thirst from the proffer alcoholic refreshment and ordered more once Lord Ball’s bottle was empty. Madame De’Ath drank less but was more affected as she proceeded to flirt with the sexagenarian Marshal de France, Albert de Chance, who was very impressed with the young widow’s décolletage.
Lord Balls attended the Paris Derby, sharing his owner’s box with the Grand Duc and Duchess de Chevreuse. The Crown Prince dropped by but did not stay long. Longer was the King’s visit to Lord de Bearne’s owner’s box.
The Royal Hunt in the fourth week of April, which was attended by Lord de Bearne and his Lady was the only other event of note this month.

A Romantic Interlude by Comtessa Yvonne De Villepin
With Lady Balls still in seclusion following her giving birth, Lady Bougiedure’s impending confinement, and Mlle. Favre’s beau service at the front, there is little else to report on other than then outrageous behavior of Mdm De’Ath. Having gotten into her cups while the guest of Lord Balls at the Fleur-de-Lys, I am told that she practically flung herself at the other male patrons! I would have hoped that she would have select someone a little younger than a general of the late King Henri!

An Ecumenical Matter by Bishop Henry Defour
Bishop de Pooh was seen drinking heavily at the Fleur-de-Lys club. One expects better of the Archbishop of Paris but it is doubtful that the Cardinal will take any official notice of the indiscretion. Perhaps the Archbishop should reflect on the cardinal virtue of temperance.

Reports from the Front by General Georges Boulle (rtd.)
Brevet Marshal de France Lord Bougiedure returned from the Lorraine Front to take command of one of the three armies for the upcoming Summer Campaign.
Flanders Frontier
Another quiet month in garrison.
Lorraine Frontier
The Frontier Brigade Commander was unable to follow up the previous month’s success despite being reinforced by a troop from the Dragoon Guards lead by Lieutenant-Captain Buisson and the Chevreuse Guard Company but was at least able to hold on to his defensive position. Lieutenant-Captain Buisson’s classes at the military academy certainly paid off as he very neatly maneuvered his troop to protect the flanks of the brigade, earning him a mention in dispatches, the Croix de la Cite medal, promotion to Brevet Brigadier General and a bit of loot.
Savoy Frontier
The Savory Frontier Brigade Commanders was mortally wounded in a futile struggle against the encroachment of Savoyard rebels.
Spanish Frontier
The frontier regiment loses a skirmish against the Spanish.
Next month:
Flanders Frontier HL 3 Alert Defense
Lorraine Frontier HL 3 Alert Defense
Savoy Frontier HL 2 Garrison Garrison
Spanish Frontier HL 3 Alert Field Operations
