Dearest cousin Bastian
I simply had to write to you sweet cousin to let you know what a wonderful month I've just had and to reply to those questions you sent to me.
Your old friend Grand Duc Huillaume only went and got married to your ex Viscomtessa Jeanne-Baptiste!! I think she was the lady who you said was your favourite out of all the lucky girls that you dated while in Paris and it always makes me giggle when I recall that story you told about the time when Jeanne-Baptiste did the trick with the wine bottle & the cork! Makes my cheeks blush just thinking about it, I mean who'd ever have guessed that a lady could do that!! Certainly not little me but, you know, it might just be worth catching up with the Vicomtessa for champagne and nibbles then I can ask her if she'll let me into her confidence, perhaps she could even teach me a 'trick' or two!
The wedding was a fine affair, as too was the delightful party held the week prior and hosted by Lady Balls. Heloise is always great company, she leaves me a few glasses behind when it comes to the wine, I can tell you, and Lady Balls is a most excellent hostess. That darling husband of hers, your good friend Auguste, has also signed me up for his acting troupe, the Balls Players, and we have a play coming on in February.....about your life! I'm invited to play a leading roll and was thinking maybe I'll end up being cast as Viscomtessa de Bearne, during the phase of your life when you were dating her! Gosh, even more reason now to get her her to teach me that little 'wine bottle & cork' routine!
I also undertook some teaching at Madame Duschene's, helping brush up the skills of those seeking to better themselves in the art of etiquette.
So, you see, it's all going swimmingly well for me so far and I can't wait for what the months ahead hold in store for me, excitement, fun, love and success.....I just feel it cousin, everything is great.
Now, as to those questions you asked me, though lord only knows why you are interested in such dull topics, all seems a bit boring to me. Ok, firstly I am told that Lord Nicholas Lyon and that Minister of War fellow, Pierre Segurier I believe his name is, well yes they're both in Paris and the word is they don't have bodyguards present when out in public. The Commissioner of Public Safety post, yes, yes I know it's rightly yours and you were cheated out of it but it has been filled by someone else, I don't know his name yet, some non entity of a fellow I'm told? I did forward that letter that you sent me, the one to the King about having all charges against you quashed, your estates and posts returned to you, 2000 livres in compensation plus the chance to become King's Executioner for a day in order that you can chop off the heads of Lyon & Segurier once you've arrested them and had them found guilty. I assume His Majesty has received it by now and will doubtless get back to you in good time.
Lastly, thank you for the recommendation and note of introduction to the Minister of Justice. I'm sure that he is a decent man, respectable, wealthy etc and a girl could certainly do worse in her choice BUT....BUT....cousin I'm not interested in making his acquaintance, honestly! By all accounts he's also a tedious old windbag, grossly overweight and afflicted by flatulence none of which endear me to him. So, no, I must decline your recommendation that I 'take up with him pronto so that will add a useful ally to The Justice for Bastian' campaign'.
Well, keep well cousin and do write again soon. I hope the Spanish climate is to your liking, I hear it's always so hot there, and life is treating you as well as it is me.
Your loving cousin,
