The Social Whirlwind by Sieur Matheus Mallette
As with last year, their Majesties returned to Fontainebleau in August after their tour of the provinces this summer, hosting two royal balls at the chateau. Lords Bougiedure and Balls were, as expected, in attendance at both events. It was their ladies, however, that were the main objects of attention, although the Grand Duchess de Chevreuse yielded to her husband at the second ball.
A dinner party hosted by Lord Balls was the only other event of note in this quiet month. Sadly, it was poorly attended as only the Bougiedures and Father Vincent de Pooh decided to avail themselves of the Viscomte de Torcy’s hospitality.

A Romantic Interlude by Comtessa Yvonne De Villepin
Our King’s attention has turned away from the daughter of the Marquis du Dampierre, Mlle Bougiedure. Her virtue was sufficient to withstand the notorious amorous ardor of his Majesty. Time will tell if the stain of the affair will impact her chances for marital bliss.
Ladies Bougiedure and Balls attended their husbands to both royal balls where their skill on the dance floors was much applauded. In the intervening week, Lady Balls made merry with her husband at the Fleur-de-Lys while Lady Bougiedure spent the week at home with her son.
Newly arrived in Paris is Monique Adelina De’Ath, a relative of the recently departed Docteur De’Ath.

La Gallerie Veritie by Celeste Lundenburg
Sadly, Paris has proven more than the aspiring artist, Clement Cadieux, could endure. He has quit the city for his family’s estate in Provence.

Reports from the Front by General Georges Boulle (rtd.)
The summer campaign ends with mixed results for France. The defense of Touls was successful but the subsequent advance into Germanic lands was mostly repulsed by Hapsburg forces. Nothing lost or gained as the armies return to the lines that they occupied at the end of May.
Flanders Frontier
The Flanders Frontier Regiment assisted by the Picardy Musketeers is success in routing their Spanish opponent.
Lorraine Frontier
Aggressive employment of the Cavalry Division and Separate Cavalry Brigade is strongly rebuffed by enemy infantry and cavalry formations using a hammer and anvil approach. Only a successful rear guard action by the Dragoon Guard prevented complete destruction of the cavalier formations. Lieutenant Buisson performance of duty result in two mentions in dispatch (one in lieu of promotion) and a sizable amount of loot. The infantry divisions were largely uninvolved as they were unable to keep pace with the cavalry. The French Guard, leading the attack, ended up getting caught in an ambush that forced the deployment of the 1st Division into battle lines well short of the main enemy position. Brevet Captain was recognized for his efforts to withdraw his company in good order.
Savoy Frontier
The Savoyard rebels continue to evade Lord de Bearne but he does capture one of their mountain strongholds gaining two mentions in dispatch and a little bit of loot.
Spanish Frontier
Patrols along the border are successful in discouraging Spanish activity.
Next month:
Flanders Frontier HL 3 Alert Field Operations
Lorraine Frontier HL 3 Alert Defense
Savoy Frontier HL 6 Skirmishing Field Operations
Spanish Frontier HL 2 Garrison Garrison

Legal Affairs by Jerome de Masse, esq.
The trial of Lord De’Ath, Commission for Public Safety, was conducted with the defendant in absentia. As there was no one in the court to provide a defense for his action, Bastian Anton De’Ath was found guilty of possession of stolen documents and escaping from custody. He was sentenced to 12 months at the frontier and his title was revoked by the crown. Word is that the shylocks are considering whether to take legal action to recover the loans that we made to the now absent docteur.
