According 23.0:
What is considered a member of the Army or Guards? Is so considered a Staff officer (brigadier and up) without active command?
Spacifically:
Huillaume has left the guards when he accepted his Full Brigadier propotion. Could now he try to make a carreer as Artist (after all, he has already some arworks done), or he should renounce to his Brigadier rank to do so?

The intention is that a character can not benefit (L and SP) from more that one profession at a time. AUB, for example, can't benefit from both a merchant profession and a playwright profession as the same time.
In order to become an artist as a profession, HLB would order the change as a pre-monthly action and would lose the monthly pay and status as a Brigadier. He will also no longer be eligible for military appointments.
In RP terms HLB resigns/retires from the military or is placed on an inactive list. The rules don't address rejoining the military profession but it should, in my opinion, be permitted.

Though you can still teach if you have the appropriate skill level. Yes, and make artworks as an amateur. What you cannot, acvcording what I understand, is to benefit from military and chapter 23 at the same time.
