Dear Cousin,
I find myself unjustly accused as a result of seditious forces operating within the French Government and currently am incarcerated in the Château le Petit-Perron outside of Lyon.
This is a most grave situation as the very safety of France itself lays upon a knife's edge if these villains are allowed to get away with their crimes and conspiracy with the Spanish, for it is indeed that country with whom they are in league. I found the documents hidden away amongst the papers of Pierre Séguier, Minister of War and was on my way to Burgundy with them - in order to root out further conspirators - when the swine had me waylaid and arrested under totally false pretences.
You need to come and secure my release cousin, I have already alerted the Army and the people of Paris but I fear Séguier and Lyon may have gotten to His Majesty with their lies already, desperate as they are to detach themselves from the documents and acts of treason.
Get yourself some guards and a fast coach, bring all your legal books and have these charges thrown out. I cannot stress enough the 'need for speed' as I have some dreadful apprehension that unless you speak up for me Lyon and Seguier will wangle it that I get that cretin Brice le Boursier as my defence advocate!
Sort this out for me cousin and I guarantee you free medical care for life, a big fat payment of livres and a position within the Public Safety Ministry in Paris.
