It's outrageous, there's sedition and treachery afoot!!
I, Lord Bastian Anton De'Ath, gallant, gifted, popular, loyal servant of the Crown and our Country's Commissioner of Public Safety have been accosted and arrested (!) by those who would seek to have France plunged into turmoil and anarchy.
Having conscientiously undertaken my duty by attending the Government session at the beginning of June, information reached me that certain 'incriminating' documents were believed to be in the possession of none other than that notorious miscreant Pierre Séguier, Minister of War. Good folk will recall that I sought to alert His Majesty about the unsuitability and, indeed, danger of this rogue being allowed to continue in office yet, when I arrested him, the tendrils of corruption and subterfuge saw him escape justice courtesy of his own 'paymaster' managing to dupe Cardinal Richelieu who was acting as trial judge. I mean, even in this, one has to ask why was a Cardinal presiding over a case? Who 'leaned' on the Minister of State to make way and become suddenly unavailable to carry out his expected duties?
Of course, I knew, that behind this bumbling buffoon Séguier was the real villain of the piece, Lord Nicholas Lyon, Minister of Foreign Affairs. However no-one would listen, well no-one of true merit, and I have been left alone to secure sufficient proof of their collective guilt and complicity.
Fortunately this very proof did become available to me as I was able to 'lift' a number of documents from amongst the papers of Séguier whilst he was elsewise engaged in attending to his ablutions and immediately - thanks to my gift with languages - I recognised that these were of Spanish origin! Yes, shocking isn't it, France's Minister of War is in league with Spain!!
Now, this placed me in a dilemma.....should I confront Séguier, in front of the assembled government & King......or investigate further to see quite how far this all went, would I also be able to uncover further details / proof that would reveal Lyon's involvement in all this too and catch the pair of them for the price of one, so to speak? I chose the latter but then that's where it went wrong, Séguier & Lyon realised I was onto them - Séguier must have discovered the documents were missing - and was making my way to Burgundy where instructions showed the documents were to be delivered. Using their nefarious connections they had me accosted by a unit of Gendarmes.....me, the Commissioner of Public Safety, the man who is entrusted with providing France's protection......under the totally insane charge that I was the courier and it was me who was delivering the documents!!
I, thus, find myself unjustly imprisoned in Burgundy where I am told that I am to be held for a whole month before facing trial in September. It's totally preposterous, anyone with a shred of common sense can see it's blatant fabrication and the desperate moves of the real villains to try and extricate themselves. Who in their right mind is going to believe that the very Official appointed to oversee the Realm's safety and security would be involved in this, especially when that Official is also Lord De'Ath, Viscomte de Ploërmel. Through their actions they're also trying to ensure I am removed from the role as Public Safety Commissioner so they can replace me with one of their own appointed lackeys!
These are dark times people and it's time to fight back, are we simply going to allow the enemies of democracy and His Majesty to run rampant? The next thing we know they'll be fixing votes - or perish the thought, stealing votes - for various appointments so that the decent, diligent and hard working candidates are cheated out of positions that are rightfully their own.
Defend democracy, defend Lord De'Ath!
The best way to do this is to march upon the capitol and drag out Séguier & Lyon. Say a firm no to this 'show trial' orchestrated by my political opponents and the enemies of our country. Demand my release and the dismissal of these ridiculous charges. Come in your masses, protect yourselves as you best see fit, remember they have come for me now but next it could be you!
