The Racing Form by Lancelot Lémieux
Cold weather kept the running of this year’s Futurity from being a better attended affair. Even the Royal Family kept to their box rather than venturing out. The Baron de Torcy’s new acquisitions did very well, returning a small portion of this auction price to the Baron.

The Social Whirlwind by Sieur Matheus Mallette
A quiet month as the royal court returned from Provence. The only event was a reception for the heir to the Duchy of Brandenburg-Prussia, Frederick William in the second week. It was to have been the inaugural event for the new Minister of Foreign Affairs, Lord De’Ath but the Viscomte de Ploërmel was inexplicably absent costing him significant standing in the eyes of the King and the court. The Crown Prince was able to deftly circumvent the implications of treason that the Duc de Vendome tried to place in front of the King.
Lord Huillaume attended the reception for the first time in many years without his office as Minister of State. His manners were quite impeccable more that making up for the inexperienced faux-pas of the young Viscomtessa de Lyon. Lord Balls made a favorable impression upon the court as well. The Matron of the Hostel, Madame d’Armagnac, attended and attempted to engage in some court intrigue which would have been successful if any of the other ladies of the court had decided to engage with her.
The third week of January saw the running of the Futurity where Lord and Lady Balls hosted Lord Huillaume and Lady de Lyon in the Baron de Torcy’s owner’s box. I dare say that the absence of a Royal visitor was scarce felt, so happy was Lord Balls at the win by Louis d’Or. Madame d’Armagnac was found at her usual seat in the refreshment tent of the Pavilion.
His Majesty was most generous to not attend any events in the final week of the month, giving this author a must needed rest.

A Romantic Interlude by Comtessa Yvonne De Villepin
Lord Huillaume has not let any grass grow beneath his feet (a poor analogy for January I will admit) as he has begun courting the young Viscomtessa de Pontoise, Lady Jeanne-Baptiste de Lyon. It is reported that the former object of his desire, Mlle Bougiedure was most upset by the news but after she decided to set her orbit around the King, what else did she expect?
I have word that Lord De’Ath’s visit to the parents of Gisla Chabert went very poorly indeed! Whether it was the rented couch that Lord De’Ath arrived in, his more modest lineage, or a lack of an impressive gift the notorious skin-flint of Picardy, the Comte de Clermont took a dislike to the good docteur. I do hope that the two lords can settle their differences without bloodshed as I hope to see Gisla happily married later this Spring.
The former Catholic priest, Fabrice Fabrezan, attempted to court Amorette Valluy only to discover that she had gotten married the previous November. I suppose that he was preoccupied with matters of the Cloth and can be forgiven for not keeping abreast of the changing prospects of the various ladies in Paris. I can only encourage him to pay closer attention to the social register and to try again next month!
Which brings me to our artist student, Clement Cadieux, who sot companionship in the bawdyhouse rather than pay court to a proper young lady! For Shame, Sir! For Shame!

An Ecumenical Matter by Bishop Henry Defour
Congratulations are heartily given to the newest member of the Curia of the Diocese of Premy, Father Vincent de Pooh. This young man has made impressive advances in the ranks of the clergy since arriving in Paris last year and expect to see him a Bishop ere long.
Father William’s attempt to transfer to a more prestigious diocese was once again unsuccessful. He did give a sermon in the first week of January, a reprisal of his musical piece, which was happily received although I would suggest that he wants to continue with this rather unique way of celebrating the Mass that he get some new material.
Father Fabrice’s sermon last month seems to have been the final straw for him as he has quit the Church altogether to join the army. While saddened at the loss, I will pray for his safety and success in his new occupation.

Reports from the Front by General Georges Boulle (rtd.)
Fabrice Fabrezan has joined the prestigious French Guard Regiment. Good Lad! France and our King need more of your kind.
Flanders Frontier
The Flanders Frontier Regiment was unable to bring the Spanish forces to a decisive battle.
Lorraine Frontier
A quiet month in garrison.
Savoy Frontier
Lord Bougiedure abandons his usual caution and aggressively maneuvers his division against the Milanese infantry. So precise was his positioning of the forces at his disposal that the enemy was constantly compromised and forced to withdraw despite the lack of a major battle by either of the participants. Hostilities along that front are reduce although not enough to permit Lord Bougiedure to return to Paris. He will have to be content with another bar for his Croix de Guerre, two mentions in dispatch and a little lot.
Spanish Frontier
The Spanish Frontier Regiment is able to keep hostilities along the border from increasing.
Next month:
Flanders Frontier HL 3 Alert Field Ops
Lorraine Frontier HL 2 Garrison Garrison
Savoy Frontier HL 4 Raiding Field Ops
Spanish Frontier HL 4 Raiding Field Ops
