The Racing Form by Lancelot Lémieux
The Downs was won by the favorite, Silvermane, but victory was a hollow one for Lord Bougiedure as his prize racing stallion contracted an infection that cropped up amongst the horses in the South of France. Silvermane and Big Brown were amongst the horses that have died of the sickness.

The Social Whirlwind by Sieur Matheus Mallette

Second week of March – Lord de Bearne and Mdm d’Armagmac attended in the Pavilion
Fourth week of March – Lord De’Ath was elevated to Viscomte de Ploërmel. Lord de Bearne presented a splendid painting of King Louis XIII at the Battle of Saint Gaudens although Marshal de France Georges Boulle was heard to complain that His Majesty was not so close to the front line as depicted. Lord de Bearne appears to have joined his friend, the Grand Duc de Chevreuse in the King’s inner circle.
Elsewhere, Lord Ball’s daughter was baptized in the Cathedral de Notre Dame with Mdm d’Armagnac standing as godmother. Also in attendance were, Lord Bougiedure and Father’s Vincent and William. The post baptism party was held at the Fleur-de-Lys.

An Ecumenical Matter by Bishop Henry Defour
Joining the ranks of the Benedictine order of the Catholic Church this month is Father William Souris in the Diocese of Bas-Ville. A priest with an academic bent, he spent most of the month in the Diocese library.
Father Vincent gave two sermons this month. The first on the dangers of taking the God’s love for granted was well received. The second on the bravery of our armed forces less so but at least it was better than last month’s. Father Vincent cannot seem to quite grasp the experience of the soldier for his homily.
