The Social Whirlwind by Sieur Matheus Mallette
Cold winter weather in the new year encouraged many citizens to seek diversion indoors this month. Lord Bougiedure and Lord De’Ath attended dancing classes at Madame Duschene’s. Lord de Bearne moved into a recently purchased Chateau. Lord Balls directed rehearsals for a new production featuring Mdm d’Armagnac.
The highlight of this bitter January was the Futurity, held in the third week of the month. The event was well attended despite the cold. Lord Bougiedure, without his wife, met with Lord de Bearne accompanied by Mlle Bougiedure in the Pavilion. Also seen fortifying themselves against the brisk air were Lord and Lady Balls and Lord De’Ath as well as Lord Lyon accompanied by Mdm d’Armagnac.
The only other event of mention was a royal audience for the envoy from the Papal States, Cardinal Giacomo Cavalieri. Lord Bougiedure was the only notable in attendance but he was uncharacteristically dull. Perhaps it was the cold weather.

A Romantic Interlude by Comtessa Yvonne De Villepin
Joyous news from the Grand Duchy of Chevreuse! Her Grace, Eloise Bougiedure, has given birth to a fine health boy! This author has advance information that the child will be christened Jean Luc in the upcoming month. Congratulations to the happy parents although I must object to Lord Bougiedure for forcing his beloved wife to attend dancing classes only two weeks before the birth!
Lady Balls, Mdm d’Armagnac, and Mlle Bougiedure all braved the cold to accompany their gentlemen to the Futurity although I have it that the widow saw very little outside of the inside of the refreshment tent.
Mlle Trinttignant was visited by Lord De’Ath in the final week of January. Those in a military profession will rejoice that she remained true to her soldier at the front as I have information that the audience was brief and left the participants in little doubt as to the intentions of the lady’s heart.
