So, I mentioned some projects. The first is a very small one. I want to try and get this boardgame to the table.
It jumps us more than 100 years ahead, into the French Revolution. BGG Game here - boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/10022/la-revolution-francaise-la-patrie-en-danger-1791
The main warning I'd give is that the rulebook (even the rewritten one which improves things a bit) is genuinely bad and makes the game appear a lot more complex than it is. So I'll also be acting as ref to help smooth over any confusing parts! But once you get past that it's a really fun game.
The other thing to be aware of is that it leans heavily towards simulation and the sides really aren't balanced. It's the kind of game you play for the experience. I'm happy to do some short strategy guides for anyone that wants them, although some may prefer to play blind!
I estimate a learning game at around 5-6 hours, so either one session or split into a couple of sessions. Obviously, we'll try and find a time that works for everyone.
You'll need a copy of Tabletop Simulator for the PC.
If people want voice chat, Discord is probably worthwhile (and you'll obviously need something that allows voice chat) because it does it better than TTS. If you're happy with text, we can do that on TTS.
If you want to sign up for a specific political current (there weren't really formal political parties at this time) you can do so on a first come first served basis.
Factions
Constitutional monarchists who think the Revolution has gone far enough. Opposed to both the idea of an absolute monarchy and to a republic. Primarily middle class, they start off strong, in charge of the Legislative government.

If you want more details or want to sign up, say so. I'm looking for five or six players. I do have a few more potential places to recruit, but I'm giving people from En Garde! first refusal.

Factions
Royalists
Utterly opposed to the Revolution and want the restoration of a full Divine Right absolute monarchy. They may be helped in this by the Clergy and most of the European powers.
Feuillant

Marais (The Swamp also known as The Plain)
While none of the Currents are political parties in the modern sense, the Marias aren't even so much a Current as a group of otherwise uncommitted individuals. They're not ideologically coherent which is both an advantage (they can thrive under almost any regime) and a disadvantage (they have a tendency to go with whichever Current gives a convincing speech). They frequently are the Current with the largest numbers in any political regime. (Note: The Marais only get played if we have six players. With five their actions are automated).

Girondins
Classical liberals and radical democrats, the Girondins want to capitalise on the gains of the Revolution but are against it being taken too far. The vast majority favour a democratic republic. They often support war with foreign powers. Some of the main planks of their policy are secularism, democratic reform and a strong legislative at the expense of a weaker executive and judiciary.
Montagne (The Mountain)
One of the most radical of the Currents. Largely middle class, but sensitive to the demands of the Sans-Culottes. They are strong centralists, taking the view that what's good for Paris is good for France. They see themselves as representing the interests of the poor, frequently supporting such measures as price controls. They want the Revolution not just consolidated but extended.
Sans-Culottes
Sans-Culottes
The unwashed masses of Paris, although some of their leaders come from more privileged backgrounds. They generally support a direct democratic constitution, economic policies to help the poor and harsh laws against political enemies. Even The Mountain frequently find the Sans-Culottes overly radical! Their power lies in the Commune of Paris, which allows them to impose their will on France as a whole.
