The Greasy Pole with Sieur Matheus Mallette.
Sacré bleu!
It seems the new Duc of Gevaudan has not yet settled into the social demands his new position places on him!
Such scandal this month, as he was seen cavorting in public with the peasant girl Mlle Bertha! Worse, he decided that she was an acceptable companion to take to Court! Really, words fail me.
At the envoy reception, Mlle Bertha was heard to remark at a volume unable to be ignored that the food on other was "right fancy" and proceeded to ask the chef for a "doggy bag" whatever one of those was. Even more shockingly, she was the more socially acceptable of the couple as Lord L'Hopital decided to make his companion laugh by belching out various national anthems. I believe we are starting to understand why his sorely departed father encouraged his heir to spend quite so much time at the front.
All that can be said in the Duc's defense is that he was grieving this month with Sieur D'Eath turning up to the wake to console him in his dark hour. Still the party he held at the end of the month at the Fleur de Lys was well attended and perhaps one of his friend's wives can take Mlle. Bertha under their wing in the unwise possibility this 'fling' continues.
Elsewhere, court was the focus of much activity this month, with Lord Bougidure and Lord de la Azur impressing at the Royal Ball.
Finally, Lieutenant Hoffman spent the entire month praying in church. All I can surmise is that he is either considering a career in the clergy or has done something very bad indeed.
