In Memoriam: Remy L'Opital, Duc of Gevaudan
The L'Opital family regrets to inform Paris of the passing of Lord L'Opital a week ago. Tragically, he was unable to recover from his collision with a horse and cart.
He is survived by his oldest son Maurice, who will be inheriting the title.
The family ask for privacy at this difficult time.

The Social Whirlwind with Sieur Matheus Mallette.
It seems that Monsieur Balls' previous success in drunken duelling may have filled him with a false sense of confidence. While one understands the need of a man to protect the honour of his wife, doing so against a senior member of the Dragoon Guards was somewhat unwise. Poor Monsieur Balls was soundly thrashed, barely walking away while his opponent was entirely unscathed. At least his wounds didn't stop him acting as godfather to the Bonnetts, although it was perhaps fortunate that his good friend Doctor De'Ath was in attendance.
Speaking of the good doctor, Paris' most premier physician has achieved yet more professional success, with his appointment as the family doctor to Archduke Leopold.
The new Lord L'Opital doesn't seem to have been fazed by his brush with captivity. Not only did I see him carousing at the Rose & Crown, but he was seen imparting his military experience to the new generation of officers as a guest lecturer at the Military Academy.
Finally, Lieutenant Hoffman spent half the month at church! Perhaps he feels guilty about something? Still, at least he found time to join Sieur De'Ath for a drink later on.

Reports from the Front by General Georges Boulle (rtd.)Nice to see some sign ups for the front. Sainct-Leu joined the French Guard (I hear with some rather serious high level pressure on the commanding officer for his acceptance) and bought himself a Subaltern commission. Aloys Gauthier signed up for the Flanders Frontier Regiment. Good to see some lads willing to do their duty to King and Country. And Commander Lagarde de Bearne heads back to Flanders with the Royal Foot Guards, not being one to pass up the opportunity to bravely try and get the possible loot offered by a siege operation. Spanish FrontierLots of clashes in the war with Spain, although I'm sad to say that they didn't really get us anywhere. Not a good day for the 3rd infantry brigade which saw itself driven from the field. Damn good showing from the Languedoc regiment though. If everyone fought with that bravery we'd quickly triump. Flanders FrontierRaiding of enemy forts this month. The Royal Foot Guards took command of the siege equipment which is good to see. Wouldn't want them damaging their nail varnish. Still, Commander Lagarde de Bearne showed his skill at fighting from a distance and at making sure his men were mainly focused on enriching themselves. Enemy have lost heart now.
Mentions in Dispatches: Hulluame Lagarde de Bearne
Lorraine FrontierExcellent month as we pushed the enemy back. Savoy FrontierWe didn't manage to take any enemy fortifications so will continue the operation next month.
Next month:Spanish Frontier HL 10 WAR Field Flanders Frontier HL 2 Garrison Garrison Lorraine Frontier HL 4 Raiding Defence
Savoy Frontier HL 4 Raiding Siege
