I'm thinking of making all commands for the Frontier (so everything except the Summer Campaign) covered by the temporary position rules.
However, to stop people spending half the year not doing their job, any full time officer can only stay away from Paris for three months in the year in this fashion if they want to keep their job. What do people think?

Further tinkering with army command structure.
I think the responsibility for deciding on deployment for the Summer campaign should be transferred from the MoS to the MoW, to give the latter a bit more input.
Thoughts?
This affects Hulluame and Renald.

I concur that deployment should be the purview of the military (either MoW or AG) rather than the MoS

I thing that MoS makes more sense. War is an extension of diplomacy. Or the result of its failure. The MoW would not necessarily know what agreements/ treaties are in effect. That office ought to concentrate on how well prepared the military is so that it can achieve the objectives identified by the MoS.

Maybe as a compromise between the two, the MoS decides on *where* the armies are deployed, but the MoW decides the actual military tactics (siege, assault etc.).

I like your suggestion to fuse both offices into the process.

This affects Hulluame and Renald. I don't understand what do you mean with this, as, according the rules, the MoS did not decide on deployment... (Bold original, underlining mine) See that it's not clear who decides the exact composition (specific Regiments) of the Army(es), but I assumed that was part of the force deployment, and so MoW decides (the fact he can also veto or swap Regiments seemed to point that way too, IMHO). I also assumed "force deployment" included which border will hey be sent too... That's why Huillaume only told about the number of Armies (one in this case) and Regiments (eight in this case) to be sent, but did leave which specific ones and its deployment to the MoW.

Does that mean that even civilian appointment holding characters may leave for war up to 3 months in a mandate? Of course I would not complain for it... That's correct. Essentially it would mean that this rule applied to all frontier command positions: This would abolish the frontier commander appointment, which are really unpopular anyway. Essentially, the idea is that the King will allow civilian holders to go to the Front for the good of France, but only once a year. Note that I also think I'd bring in only having commanders if more than one regiment is at the front at HL 3 or more. Having a Division Commander for a frontier regiment confined to barracks or only on alert seems a bit silly!
Ah, in this case we have conflicting rules that are going to need clarifying then.
I am inclined (and you don't seem to mind) to take MoS powers away and give them to the MoW. The MoS already has a lot of decisions to make, probably the most in game.
