Father Chatten brutally murdered by heathens
In tragic news, the Church has let it be known that Father Chatten has been murdered by the same savages he was trying to minister to. While it seems that Father Chatten was originally popular with the natives, as time went on he faced increasing hostility leading to his capture. Barbarically, an offered ransom was refused, no doubt in favour of sacrificing the good priest in some kind of primitive blasphemous ritual, possibly involving a large wicker man.
The Church will be auctioning off Father Chatten's racehorse "Athena" in his memory and to raise money for fallen women, a cause close to Father Chatten's heart.

The Greasy Pole with Sieur Matheus Mallette
And what an eventful February we've just seen, with weddings and races highlighting the season.
Congratulations are due to the new Baroness Bonnett. What a long way she has come from her humble origins and it's good to see that her obvious ambition has paid off. And judging by her appearance I have to say that the wedding was very timely, not to detract from the happy couple's big day. But almost everyone who was everyone turned up to hear the Bishop of Montrouge give his blessing to the newly weds. Lord Bougiedure, Lord Lagarde de Bearne and Lord de La Azur made their excuses and left before the wedding reception (there are gradations even among the aristocracy it seems) but Lieutenant Hoffman, Lieutenant L'Hopital and Monsieur Balls spent the night toasting the Bonnetts at the Rose & Crown.
Of special note was the wedding presents of which there were many. The sheer extravagance of Lord Bougiedure's gift of a full harpsichord and ceremonial sword was worthy of note. Although sadly it appears that Lieutenant Hoffman must have left his gift in his other jacket.
Although Lieutenant Hoffman does at least know how to have a good time, spending every other week this month having drinking in the Horse Guards club! Indeed, his stories of the recent military efforts were very popular with the other patrons.
The St. Denis stakes saw its share of action this month, with the Bonnetts being joined by Doctor D'Eath (soon to be a Chevalier one hears) in their Owner's Box. The party goers were joined by none other than Grand Duke Maximilian himself, who wished to pass on his congratulations to the happy couple in person. Grand Duke Maximillian put a hefty wager on the Bonnett's horse Five Livres. While Five Livres sadly didn't win, the Grand Duke took it in good humour and stayed with the party all day.
In the pavillion I spotted a pair of Balls, along with Lord and Lady Lagarde de Bearne.
Poor old Lieutenant L'Hopital seems to have got rather confused however, turning up at the start of the month to find nothing but a very confused steward.
Finally, I hear that almost no business took place at the Government meeting this month as the assembled ladies and gentlemen were far too busy being amused by Lord Bougiedure's bon mots! Perhaps he is making some kind of point, not that I can imagine what that could be...

Comtess Yvonne De Villepin – A Romantic Interlude
I'm afraid I must make a teeny criticism of the ladies of Paris much as I hate to do so!!! I do feel that some of you played a bit overly coy this month!!! I can understand a girl's desire to make a gentleman do more of the chasing but I will say to Mlle Chabert that when a suitor is quite such an eligible bachelor as Lord Bougiedure some more encouragement would not go amiss!!! I do understand why poor Mlle Calvert might feel somewhat fragile but I assure you dear, not all men are like that one and Lieutenant L'Hopital is a fine and upstanding gentleman who I am sure will treat you like you should be treated and the poor man was forced to go to the Lady's Slipper instead!!! Doctor D'Eath was also at the Lady's Slipper but in this case it is the working ladies who deserve my sympathies for the company!!!

Reports from the Front by General Georges Boulle (rtd.)
Congratulations to Hoffman on his promotion to Lieutenant in the Dragoon Guards.
Spanish Frontier
A few minor clashes with no clear result. However, word has reached Paris that the Spaniards are planning to attack next month so more troops are likely to be called up.
Flanders Frontier
Our patrols kept a keen eye on events, but nothing to worry about here. We'll be on a state of heightened alert next month but hopefully things will remain quiet.
Lorraine Frontier
We had to fight off a few ambushes, but the boys back home apparently have decided that jaw jaw is best and peace terms have been agreed.
Savoy Frontier
Some inconclusive clashes, but things look sure to escalate for the Spring season.
Next month:
Spanish Frontier HL 8 Invasion Defence
Flanders Frontier HL 3 On Alert Field
Lorraine Frontier HL 1 Peace Garrison
Savoy Frontier HL 5 Guerilla War FIeld
