Two women approached the door of M. Durant's shop. The door was locked, and as they peered through the window, they saw dust covering what little inventory remained in the place.
The first woman asked, "What has become of M. Durant's? I only ever bought my dresses and hats here."
The second replied, "He came back briefly, I heard, only to leave permanently."
The first continued, "Where am I supposed to get my fabrics and furs?"
The second moaned, "There really is no place else like it. But you know, they say that Auguste Ball's Ile de France is re-opening for Christmas."
"Balls to Balls. He sells nothing but financial pipedreams."
"Well, I heard he and M. Durant were negotiating a merger, but that fell apart with Durant's departure. So, Balls has the field all to himself, and he is actually expanding his own shop. I saw deliveries being made, bolts of silk, beaver pelts, I think Balls sees an opportunity."
"Perhaps, but I still say balls to Balls."
