Clerics are currently immune to Pirate attacks (so that they only roll against death twice, like everyone else on the expedition, rather than three times). This means that Pirates only attack ships under the guns of hostile port defences - which seems unrealistic to me, since pirates would be most likely to attack the expedition out at sea when it was at its most vulnerable.
I'd like to suggest that Priests on Expeditions be subject to Pirate attacks too.
In recompense, when on Expeditions lasting 3 months or more (ie to everywhere except England or Holland, where the chances of mishap are so small) I'd like to suggest that every time a Priest escapes death (through Storms, Pirates, or Preaching) he gets to roll for mentions and loot (rather than just rolling once per expedition). I'd also like to suggest that Priests get a Promotion Column where the figures required are 1 less than those needed for mentions. Risking one's life taking the Word of God to the Heathen must surely merit a chance at promotion (though only one per expedition, further successes being treated as MiDs).
Where loot is concerned, a month at the front allows a soldier to get up to 2400 (Siege), 3600 (Assault), or 1200 (Defence or Field Ops) livres in a single month.
The most a cleric can get after 7 or more months preaching to the Heathen Chinese is 600 livres - and his chances of getting it are less.
This seems to be a huge discrepancy.
I'd like to suggest that, again excepting expeditions to England or Holland, the figure used to multiply the dice rolls be raised from 10 to 100. If multiple successful rolls are made in the Loot column, however, the Priest only returns with the highest amount rolled, not with both/all of them.
