Mes amis,
These last few months, nay seasons even, have been one of a voyage of discovery and soul searching for my good self. There was the military life as a regimental docteur in the Aquitaine Regt, service (albeit brief) as a Public Health Inspector, appointment as ROYAL EXECUTIONER, the offer of a post within the Royal Foot Guards and, most recent, very recently in fact, with the ink barely being dry on my commission papers, for service within the the Paris Guard.
Some may say a worthy curriculum vitae, positions to which many honest folk would be grateful to fill but...but...it's just not enough for a man of my caliber! The Aquitaine Regt was dullsville in the extreme. bugger all to do except attend to various cases of the 'Spanish / English' Disease (depending on your view of it) amongst the troops, maintain the personnel medical records and drink wine whereas life as a Public Health Inspector was a position I found toothless as I had no power to bring to account the numerous rogues who I found breaching city regulations. My hopes rose immensely upon being appointed ROYAL EXECUTIONER but now heading in to my fourth month in post and not a solitary bonce has been chopped off as I've not had a single condemned brought before me, all it seems to be is polishing my sword and axe in readiness for another month of waiting!
I felt that a more stable and promising regiment would be the Paris Guard, I mean there's a nice black uniform and I already had my own 2-H sword yet it's really just a dead end appointment where I can see it taking years to really achieve anything of merit. NO...there's money and fame to be made by going it alone in practice, establishing my own premises like I envisaged before, and waiting for the cliental to begin gracing my establishment with theirfat, bulging bags of livres custom. Ok, I may have to deal with a few of the poor low life but there's sure to be some rich Duc, Foreign Ambassador or Royal Family member that needs my services. I'm Bastian Anton De'Ath, I'm destined for greatness so it's time for change! That damned Agnes is going to have to go as well, party pooping bible basher I can stand her whining no longer especially when's there's a club full of saucy harlots available to a man of means at the Ladies Slipper.
July 1633, the month it all changed and began anew for me!

ROYAL EXECUTIONER (apparently?!)
