Sir,
As you are doubtless aware there is an outstanding issue of honour we need to resolve at the earliest opportunity during the coming month. It is not the done thing to undertake certain social engagements behind the back of a party, rather than seeking to redress the issue like a true gentleman, so let us deal with this in the manner that should have been pursued.
Please let me know your choice of location and blade. I would also appreciate the courtesy of a reply using my name rather than mere initials you seem to favour. I assure you that in polite society the use of initials, unless they are the prestigious ones of our Sovereign, usually donate the mark favoured by a tradesman on his ledgers. Still, they might make a stonemason's task cheaper if a family needed to commission a headstone.

Msr. Piquet,
I read of your affront in the papers. Such base behavior ought not to be allowed in polite society.
Should you require a second at your meeting with the cad, I would be willing and able to fulfill that role.
Yours,
Germaine de Miremont

OOC: Note that GAP has chosen to give JPL choice of weapons. This is the weapon used by both of them; he can't use a cutlass and make GAP use a foil!

Captain Piquet, In polite society, mere initials are a greater honor than no name at all, which is the style you have chosen, or perhaps you have difficulty and needed a second to assist in your penning of letters. I must also point out that your offer that I choose the weapon of our meeting is also amiss as tradition demands sabres, our regimental weapons, and thus offering a choice where no choice exists except to dishonor my own regiment diminishes your courtesies below those tradesmen, to which your words seem to condescend, whose initials denote their ledgers. Perhaps it was these slights to detail and tradition that my lady Eloise found lacking. As a gentleman, I do not ask. JPL, Cpt. 'JPL'
I respect your traditions of your regiment and paid you the courtesy of weapon as a challenged party. How you claim this is an insult is a mystery to me.

P.S.
You will find 'JPL etc etc' that I did in fact add my name to the initial letter on this matter between us. I will be charitable and assume you neglected to unfold the parchment properly.

Captain Piquet, It is the tradition of your regiment as well as mine. Do you not wish to honor your own Dragoons? Or do you also slight their traditions? If I were a dragoon, I might find insult in the matter. JPL, Cpt. QOC 'JPL' I respect your traditions of your regiment and paid you the courtesy of weapon as a challenged party. OOC: GAP isn't in a regiment. This duel is over Eloise!

JPL,
Thankyou for the rank you refer to, a trifle premature as I have yet to join his Majesty's forces and have not applied for any post at the current time! I can only hope that you are better informed about matters of finance given your current investment scheme advertised.
I suggest that you get a servant with a better ability to read your paper to you.
Piquet.

Msr. Piquet,
Alas, Eloise and wine have gone to my head and I find myself amiss and must apologize for my errant words, which are in my part, erroneous as to certain matters. We all make mistakes and I am not above admitting mine. So used to defending honor am I that I applied to you ranks that are not yet evident, and in such applied also traditions by which you are not bound. My lady Eloise is indeed intoxicating. Please accept my humble apologies on these matters and let us settle our contention at the soonest possible appointment, upon the Pont Neuf, with rapiers. To what condition do suggest this satisfaction you feel is necessary?

Monsieur,
The location is acceptable. Unless you agree that your actions were unacceptable and politely withdraw your company from a certain individual, it seems that an argument of steel must decide the issue.

Monsieur Piquet,
Withdrawal is not an option. So I inquire, for i need to know how sharp to hone by blade, to what condition does your satisfaction demand? First blood, second, all?

JPL,
I would imagine until one gentleman surrendered or was unable to hold his blade would satisfy mutual honour.
