My dear Baron,
It seems we had rather a full evening at Le Fleur the other evening. Things were said. Things got angry and loud. For my part, I do regret it, but honor requires that I answer your challenge.
You may choose the place, time and weapons for the settlement of our dispute. I do set one small condition. For the sake of France's financial future, it would be best if we both survive the affair. It will be bad enough if we both require time to recuperate from our wounds, but the Kingdom would be in a bad position if one of us were to pass.
Looking forward to your reply, I remain,
Your Servant, Viscomte Balls

Lord Auguste Balls Viscomte de Torcy Viscomte Baron de Basse-Marche Director of the Theatre Royale
My Lord,
Baron Rothschild has retained me as his second. If you would be so gracious as to put me in contact with your second, we share arrange all of the particulars in your upcoming affair de honour.
The Baron has authorized me to say that while the stain upon his family's honour that you imputed at the Fleur-de-Lys last week must be washed away by blood, the amount of blood needed is less significant. He agrees to your proposal that the duel shall be to first blood only.
Your Servant, Chevalier de Lancie
