The new Director of the Theatre Royal, Viscomte Auguste Balls, has announced an ambitious beginning to his time in office. "Winter is usually a dead period in French Theatre, and I aim to end that," he said.
The King's Men customarily perform in December and His Lordship says that will remain the same. "The King's Men know their audiences and are brilliant performers. I will not tamper with success," Lord Balls commented.
In January and February, the theatres of Paris are often dark. The coming year of 1638 will see this change. Lord Balls intends to hire the ArchDuke's Men to perform at the Johi Theatre in January. The piece is a play Lord Balls penned in the spring of this year, and the bawdy farce is ideally suited to the strengths of the Arch Duke's men.
In February, the Balls Players will make their debut at the Theatre Royal with a new work from Lord Balls, a farce based on the life and career of Bastien De'Ath.
Lord Balls is also considering taking over all hosting duties for opening night parties. "The theatre is a tough business in which to profit, and perhaps by removing this burden from playwrights and their backers will result in more productions in future. Of course, that is a matter for further consideration."

My Lord, I am looking forward to the latest production by the King's Men.
It was unfortunate I could not join you at the Steeplechase, particularly as I missed your horse romping home to victory, so I hope to see you at the opening night party
Your friend, Chevalier de Valence Norbert Buisson
