Bah!!!! These records are ridiculous. Nothing of any detail, just the barest information. D'assaur has hidden the stolen money well. It means, yes it means I need the fool to appoint me Chancellor. I am sure he is not that clever!
"ALGER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ATTEND!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"
Father Adam's mood matched the dour decoration in his "new" office. Somehow it managed to be both cold and too hot to bear within the same hour, and the indeterminate and sporadic noises!!!! It would have tried the patience of the Lord himself. To make matters worse, he had spent hours pouring through the Diocese's finances and could not find the stolen livres. It had to have gone through the Church, as it was notionally for Adam's upkeep but there was no trail to follow. Had D'assaur really taken it directly for himself? A move of that type if provable would be grounds for disgrace and a banishment to the Dark Continent!!!
Even sat behind his old oak desk, a scattering of his possessions making the room at least look like a facsimile of his previous office. Yet even the heavy tapestries could not hide the fact that he was in a storage room. Another insult that will be added to the list to settle.
"Yes, Monseigneur?" The brainless imp, smiling inanely as he entered the office. "Why did you not tell me that Father Vincent had hired a better carriage than mine! You imbercele!!!!! I should make you spend the month following him and ACTUALLY reporting his indiscretions. Hopefully the Bishop will take into account his lack of devotion when deciding appointments. However I have a more important task for you, I require the Diocese Inventory books from storage for the last two years. Including those for the Diocese's private chambers. Make it happen, now."
Alger, always the smartest of his family but yet never the smartest in the room, nodded vigorously and turned to leave the office. When he awoke from an impromptu nap, caused he surmised by the weight of the small box of paperwork that had hurled itself across the room, Father Adam had already departed. Alger blessed the day he had been taken into the good Father's grace, and the occasional sleeping on the job being forgiven was an added bonus.
