Riding in the public coach from Provence to Paris, Clement Cadieux pulled out his sketchpad and began drawing charcoal caricatures of his fellow passengers. It kept them amused, passed the time, and was good practice.
His father, the Baron, had been disappointed that Clement was not following in the family tradition of advocates in the justice system. But it was obvious that Clement's real talent was in artistic expression, and the Baron had promised his allowance would continue as long as he did not disgrace the family name.
Clement was not aware of any artists of renown currently creating in Paris. His first goal on reaching the city would be to purchase a studio apartment where he could begin to remedy that situation.
