Mon cher Lord de Bearne,
I've forgotten how many years our friendship has now flourished or the number of years that I loyally served the Public Safety Ministry in my capacity as Royal Executioner, these in addition to my service to the people of Paris as their premier physician.
As you are now doubtless aware I have been falsely arrested by the current Commissioner for Public Safety, an oaf going by the name of José Vendredi, I also suspect you are currently seeking advice from government advocates as to what legislation exists to have this charlattan removed from office. The problem is your anticipated actions may come too late to prevent a trial being held against me!
May I humbly seek your intervention at this Trial by speaking up in my defence and helping to have these accusations and charges chucked out. Once this has been secured I would remind you of my previous offer to fill the post of Public Safety Commissioner in order that France may have a fit and sound Commissioner in place to actually tackle real crime rather than a rogue who prosecutes the innocent.
Your loyal good friend and servant,
Bastian

Sieur Bastien De'Ath,
I don't remember ever having been among us a realtion even close to what I understand as friendship (not that we have any problem either, as to dare we simply have had nearly no interaction, thou gh we might have concided in somo socila act, as with s omany other people), though I know about you as a respected Doctor in medical arts and Royal Executioner.
I also find quite daring for you to claim to know about my plans for the Government, as, while I hope to have my office renewed, that's HM decision, and I would not dare to assume it. I'm sure in his wisdom, HM will choose the one who he thinks the besi one for each office he has to appoint, and while I try to be as good as I can on it, I cannot say there's no one better. HM will decide, and if I'm the choosen, then, not before, I'll begin to study the candidates for any office I'd have to appoint.
About hte specific request you ask me, the CPS has his autonomy in his actions to secure the safety of the Kingdom, and if you are indeed innocent, it will be up to the Royal Governor (as acting judge) to decide, not me. I'm afraid I would not be able to assist to your trial. as I (along with the whole Court) won't be in Paris until week 2, when it would have already been. And, to be honest, I must state that even if I was in Paris, I could be unable to witness on it, as I have nothing to witness (except I read a letter, I hope not serious, offering a reward to whoever killed some newly arrived priest).
I'm sure justice will p revail, and , so, you don't have anything to fear unless (and I refuse to believe so) you're indeed guilty of the crime saccused.

Marquis Lagarde de Déols,
Well I may have been somewhat loose with my wording, perhaps a little 'expansive' in regards to us being actually established friends but such is your fame and benevolence, spread far and wide across the country, indeed I've heard many have said tis akin to a stream of bats piss (I believe they mean here something along the lines of 'you shine out like a shaft of gold when all around is darkness', sort of like that, either way it's meant as a compliment). It is this very fame and benevolence which makes me feel I do know you and regard you as a good friend!
You must realise my dear Marquis that the circumstances I presently find myself enduring are most stressful, enough to drive a man to the brink.....can you imagine what it's like stuck in a dank cell, vermin scuttling across the floor and vulgar ruffians masquerading as supposed Ministry guards leering in through the bars and repeatedly drawing a finger across their necks while laughing callously?! Such may understandably cause a fellow to become more expressive in his letter writing.
Anyway what disappointing news to hear that you wont be available for the Trial, however your most kind and heartening words concerning my clear innocence more than compensate for your absence. I have taken great care to secrete your letter in a place where it is most unlikely to be found until such times as I am able to retrieve it as evidence during at the actual Trial. Of course if the CPS seeks to query it or challenge it's authenticity I'll be more than happy to place it directly in his hands!!
Let us both pray that justice is seen to be done and these ludicrous and trumped up charges are dismissed most swiftly. Unless I am mistaken the appointment time for the Commissioner role looms near so one trusts it won't be too long before you are able to make a decision as to the next incumbent. I have, as always, every faith in your wisdom.
Yours most respectfully and gratefully,
Sieur Bastian.
