Did you hear about that lieutenant who went off to war a commoner, got captured and ransomed and then returned to France as a Lord?
Really, is that true?
Apparently! I heard at the market, the lieutenant is now a captain and also a Lord.
How did that happen?
No-one knows, it's all very suspicious.
Should someone tell the King?
There is a rumour that he is behind it all.
I never would have guessed that possible corruption would have involved the King.
Sadly it seems even he is not exempt.
Gosh, what a world with live in.

'Ere, Isabelle there goes that Duc de Gevaudan.
Where? I can't see him? What does he look like?
He's right there, across la rue, regardez, on that big posh looking horse.
What, him there?! But that's Lieutenant L'Hopital you daft woman, Duc de Gevaudan how ridiculous!
Didn't you see hear the news? He's a Duc now and he's got a fancy estate, plus a promotion!
How did that happen?
No-one knows, it just did!
Mon dieu, life is full of surprises they'll be saying that Hoffman is a Field Marshal next.

Are you ready to celebrate Andre, it's your birthday after all so me and the lads thought we'd take you out for a celebratory meal and drink at Red Phillip's.
Sounds great, thanks lads a man is blessed to have friends like you.
A SHORT WHILE LATER.....
Well, we're here, I'll get the wines in Andre you go find a table and have a good old chat with the lads, you know topical stuff, news of the day and all that stuff.
Cheers for this lads, I've never been in here before, fancy me getting into a club what a treat! Being a humble butcher's assistant I've dreamed about coming to Red Phillip's, what shall will talk about? Jean, you're normally one for the gossip what are people talking about lately?
Surely you've heard about this rumpus over that L'Hopital guy Andre, they've just made him a Duc!
No, I didn't know that, what happened did he single-handedly rout the enemy, capture a flag and kill one of their generals or something? Why would there be a rumpus over that, the man sounds like a hero to me!
Well, that's it you see, apparently he didn't, in fact he got captured and had to be ransomed by some of those rich blokes. No-one knows why that got him titled to a Duc? The rumpus is because someone far more deserving appears to have got nothing.
Who?
That popular champion of the people, Paris's Premier Physician Docteur De'Ath, folk are crying out that it's outrageous, the man's a genius, almost godlike some say, and if anyone should be made a Duc it's him! The people simply cannot understand it, there's whispers of corruption afoot!
Goodness gracious, that does sound unjust and we can only hope His Majesty steps in to rectify matters. I mean, if not a Duc, he should at least be made a Minister or something, Commissioner of Public Safety would be an acceptable promotion to people. Good old Docteur De'Ath could at least be relied upon to get the city cleaned up and root out those corrupt officials who are lining their own pockets while us common folk are trodden all over by the rich folk.
Exactly Andre, well said and lets all raise our glasses to that! Lads, a toast.......to Docteur De'Ath, champion of the people, long may his star rise and De'Ath for Public Safety Commissioner...oh, and for Doc.....Hurrah...Cheers for Docteur De'Ath!
Hooray....hurrah....three cheers....

You cannot be the least bit serious. Doctor De’Ath is well known to me for his ‘Services’ rendered at The Ladies Slipper. His ‘treatment’ of my ‘Many Illnesses’ always involved my ‘treatment’ of his many perversions.
