Surely the King and Bastian met when the former lay a sword on the latter's shoulders? i.e knighted him Yes, but it was all so rushed and I never really had the chance to 'entertain' him with some of my progressive ideas for both medicine and Parisian socializing. Such a great pity, however I'm sure the opportunity will arise at some point in the not too distant future. Bastian

I ally got round to reading this thread.
A few observations. SL is an abstraction representing a PCs station with regard to other PCs and NPCs. As such any Royal could be regarded as ‘A Breed Apart’ such that Royals do not have SL per se but an SL equivalent value used to calculate toadying effects, etc. So then a PC could become wildly popular, even more so than the King. The PCs SL could rise higher than SL 30; and be in great demand as a party guest while His Majesty’s SL equivalence would be capped at 30. In this model all characters could be allowed to play on and no reset would need to be implemented. The need to generate SP to maintain a high SL would eventually cap any further progression.
Second suggestion. Anyone within 2 SL of any Royal, or any higher value, would be subject to Royal Envy. Royal Envy would play out as being snubbed by any Royal who saw the character as vying for popularity. Royal Envy could be worked as negative die modifiers for Royal favors. Example: A character with a level 9 Influence would normally get a -1 to an action requiring the King’s endorsement. But if they had a SL of 28 then they would get a +1 to that same roll. So Royal Envy counteracts Influence. Should someone be so unfortunate as to get a very high amount of Royal Envy they could wind up in the Bastille wearing an iron mask…
