Having been absent from Society for a considerable period, Madame Helen Bacque would feel far more comfortable attending events in the company of respectable male escorts over the coming months. In March she hopes to visit the church of Saint-Julien-le-Pauvre in the third week in order to hear a sermon delivered by Father Dieudonné Lachapelle and would be most grateful to have a gentleman accompany her. RSVP [OOC: A Gentleman of SL 7 or less would be considered to have fulfilled his Female Companionship requirements for the month, at no penalty, should he attend this event in Helen's company. The lady would, of course, expect him to provide her contribution to the Church collection (3 livres). Still a lot less expensive than a trip to the bawdyhouse ]

Madame Bacque,
I shall be attending mass at Saint-Julien-le-Pauvre in the third week of March to hear the uplifting words of our cleric, Father Dieudonné, and should be delighted to escort you to the service. Your gentle company would be a welcome improvement upon most of my recent acquaintances.
I remain, Madame, your obedient servant,
Jean-Paul Marsaud.

Madame Bacque.
Should you find yourself at a loose end the following week, might I be so bold as to recommend we retire for refreshment to reflect upon the passionate pastor's prudent points of piety? (Try saying that after a couple of glasses of wine.) It would be my honour to be your host at the Frog & Peach. I had thought to practise my rapier, but should be very happy instead to polish my repartee.
I remain, etc.
Jean-Paul.

Mon Cher Jean-Paul,
How could I possibly refuse such a kind and considerate offer?
I would be delighted to accompany you to your club in the final week of the month. Thank you so much for the invitation.
Amitiés,
Helen

[One of the many flyers seen recently around town] Tired of going to parties alone ?
Weary of jostling with other suitors on a lady's doorstep?
Sick of ladies taking expensive gifts then slamming their doors in your face ?
Want to know what it feels like to have your arm graced by a beautiful woman and be the envy of the room ? WELL NOW YOU CAN !!! Madame Helen Bacque is now available as a weekly companion for private parties, club visits and church services.
Witty, erudite and convent educated, Mme Bacque is at ease in all social situations and will never be the source of any embarrassment for her companions. Although she does not charge for her attendances, she does expect her expenses to be paid and small gifts from appreciative gentlemen are always welcome.
If you would like to engage Mme Bacque as a temporary companion then please write in confidence to
Mme Helen Baque Appt #7, 14 Rue de la Vielle Pellaterie Isle du Palais
From the Press of Brochard et Fils, Quality Printers by Appointment to La Voix de Paris, 8 Rue au Foire, Les Halles
---------------------- [OOC : If Helen Baque and a specific gentleman both order attendance somewhere with the other in a given week, then the gentleman will be considered to have fulfilled his Female Companionship requirement for the month - without any SP penalty due to a wide difference in Social Levels. Mme Bacque expects carousing costs / church donations to be paid on her behalf, and would welcome any small gifts over and above this.
Much more dependable (and far less expensive) than courting a mistress.
Much more respectable (and far less expensive) than visiting a house of ill repute - and in addition, no chance of catching the clap.
Bookings now being taken for March and April ]

Monsieur Marsaud,
Some family issues have arisen which demand my attention. Consequently I will be unable to accompany you to the Frog & Peach at the end of the month after all (though I will still be accompanying you to Church in the third week of the month).
Thank you once more for the invitation and please be assured that I would be delighted to visit your club with you at some future time.
Apologies for having to cancel the club visit this month,
Mme Helen Bacque

Mon Cher Jean-Paul,
Thank you for escorting me to Church last month. It was a pleasure to finally meet you in person.
Should I have the leisure to attend Church in April it will be to hear Father Robin's sermon in the third week of the month. If this transpires I would be delighted to accompany you once more.
Please accept my apologies regarding the uncertainty, however. It has become clear to me that ultimately I will have to find myself an influential protector if I am to make my way in Paris and it takes considerable time trawling through the social columns to determine suitable candidates.
Amitiés,
Helen

Chère Helen.
Father Robin impressed me last month with his ecumenical debate. I would welcome the opportunity to experience also his liturgical skills, and shall plan to attend his mass in week 3. Should your arrangements coincide, I shall be honoured to escort you once again.
À bientôt,
Jean-Paul.

Madame Helen Bacque to Monsieur Daniel Dompteur Greetings !
Monsieur Dompteur,
Let me be the first to welcome you to Paris.
I have no doubt that a gentleman of your stature will be taking out membership of Hunters. Should you intend to visit the club in the first half of May and seek a female companion to accompany you I would be more than happy to oblige.
Wishing you every success in your future endeavours,
Madame Helen Bacque

Madame Bacque,
Gracious Lady, I am a newly arrived supplier of high quality clothing and materials who is about to set up a Le Manteau de Padern, an establishment selling these fine wares to the sophisticated clientele of this great city. As this new marvel needs a prestigious start, I wondered if you would be willing to formerly open the premise in the last week of the coming month?
If this is of interest , please contact me privately.
Yours,
Monsieur Q Aiguille.

Madame Helen Bacque to Father Francois Robin Greetings!
Father Francois,
Let me congratulate you upon your new position at St.Quentin. I must say that the promotion is well deserved. I've found your sermons of late to be most uplifting and have noticed the care you lavish upon maintaining the well-being of your parishioners, high and low.
Whilst on this subject, I have a favour to ask.
I have come to the conclusion that if I am ever to find an appropriate suitor - and possible future husband - I will need a house. Not only will this provide me with a domicile suitable for a gentlewoman of my station, but the servants will effectively provide me with chaperones to ensure that the proprieties are observed should a gentleman caller visit me.
My modest income would cover the running costs of such an establishment. It is the initial purchase price which poses the difficulty. A house will cost me 300 livres. I can find a third of this from my savings but, even though I have found well-paid, respectable employment as secretary to Madame la Vicomtess de Bréval, Lady Odelina Beauchamp, it will be almost two years before this provides the other two-thirds.
I need hardly point out to you that neither of us is getting any younger.
I have considered going the Shylocks of the Pont au Changes for help with this, but I'm sure you will agree that usury is a sin and should not be encouraged. My only recourse would appear to be to hope for the generosity of a good, christian benefactor.
So please, Father Francois, could you possibly see your way to loaning me the 200 livres I need to secure a house? I would, of course, pay you back eventually (though exactly when I can't say) and if you find yourself in urgent need of the monies before this transpires, the sale of the house would more than cover my debt to you.
Until my next confession, I remain
Respectfully Yours in Christ,
Helen Bacque
P.S. Should your kindness allow me to secure a house I will need to engage staff to run it: a housekeeper (cum cook, cum maid), a footman and, should I secure a horse, a groom to tend to it. If any of your parishioners familiar with these duties have fallen on hard times for one reason or another and are currently without work, I would be more than happy to consider them for these posts. I firmly believe that everyone deserves a second chance - don' t you ?

Madame Helen Bacque to Monsieur Quintin Aiguille Greetings !
Why Monsieur Aiguille! I'm flattered beyond words that you should ask me!
I would be delighted to officially open your establishment in the final week of May. I regret that I would not be able to stay long, however, since I expect to have a rather pressing demand of my own to see to that week.
Let me take this opportunity both to welcome you to Paris and to wish your enterprise every success. I will be more than happy to patronise Le Manteau de Padern - indeed, all being well, I may soon have need to purchase some servants' livery.
Best Wishes,
Madame Helen Bacque
[OOC: Happy to oblige if this is a quick/RP activity rather than a weekly one. Helen has something she needs to do on her own account every week of May, however, I'm afraid.]
