Pvt. Jacques de Blanc had a head spinning few days at the Picardy Musketeer's barracks before he was sent to the front. The Quartermaster and his minions used young Jacques to do most all that needed to be done. He suspected that they were testing him as they whipsawed him relentlessly.
'Private that floor is filthy scrub it immediately..'
'Private! What are you doing scrubbing that floor when the windows are covered in scum?'
'Private I told you to scrub that floor and here you are washing a window. Does that window look like a floor to you? Are you so stupid that you cannot tell the difference? Get back to that floor RIGHT NOW!'
'Sacre bleu! Surely you cannot deny that you have not washed that window. Why are you not obeying my order? Do you have no respect for your superiors? Get back to that window!'
They thought that they were putting the new recruit thru his paces but what they did not realize was that Jacques did not mind at all. He knew he would be shipping out and that this harassment would be short lived. In the meantime Jacques had food on a daily basis, a roof than leaked in only a few places and a blanket that had fewer fleas that he was accustomed to entertaining.
Once the supply wagons were packed Jacques and his fellow raw recruits were assigned escort duty on their way to Lorraine. Many of his fellow privates were quite energized but Jacques kept to himself...he aspired to becoming an officer; officers cannot afford to have privates as friends.
Arriving at the Picardy Musketeers bivouac Jacques sought out the 4th Company acting commander Lt. Colonel Guillaume Fitzabrose.
Jacques stopped outside his quarters and awaited the Lt. Colonel. His father had not done much for him but he had taught him the importance of being deferential to his superiors.

[OOC: By the way, the PM will stay during Winter Season in Paris. And I donĀ“t think the 4th Company is volunteering either.]

OOC: Yep, there's actually no regiments or companies apart from the frontier regiments at the front this December. If you want to volunteer for the front the best bet is the Savoy Frontier Regiment as they'll actually see some field operations; everyone else is just garrisoning barracks!

Come join my Company! Hopefully I'm commanding a Company in Savoy! You will in fact be commanding the first company due to many casualties over the autumn!

[OOC: Sorry for my confusion. I saw a post in LEG-> T. Parisian Chronicle->Autumn Campaign 1631; which said that PM was in Lorraine, so thought they were at front. Thanks for the encouragement to join CG, but Jacques SL is too low to qualify as even a lowly private. Since I have already RP enlisting in PM I think Jacques will stay there for the near term.]

All the while Jacques harbored bitter thoughts for his 'superiors'. 'Once I am a general I will seek these blackguards out and have them strapped in chains and caned daily.'
Always on the lookout for a better opportunity Jacques heard barracks scuttlebutt regarding The Royal North Highlander Border Regiment. 'That is where I need to be! There soldiers fight; they don't waste time scrubbing deeply stained floors.'
Jacques wrote a missive to his Commander:
To The Esteemed Chevalier Guy D'avaranches Brevet Brigadier General Commander of the Picardy Musketeers
My Most Honored Commander,
It was a joyous day when I was accepted into your regiment. Though a lowly private I am a private in France's most valued regiment. For what other regiment has distinguished itself to a greater extent?
Alas I am a green recruit and need to be well seasoned before I can contribute my fair share of valor to the Picardy Musketeers. To this end I humbly request that I be temporarily relieved of my regimental duties so that I may serve with The Royal North Highlander Border Regiment. I feel confident that they shall toughen me up.
Your Proudest private, Jacques de Blanc

You, Private de Blanc it appears that you are a somewhat confused individual, no doubt due to having chosen to join such a rabble as the Picardy Musketeers, commanded by that weasel d'Avranches.
If it's an Officer you wish to be, to experience adventure and reap suitable reward for your efforts then come join me instead, I have opportunities for suitable Officers within my Legions and all it takes is an oath of loyalty, your cross upon the recruitment scroll and you're in. As it so happens my two of my Legions are marching upon Gaul as I write so there is every prospect of some immediate action and I look forward to you fighting for me, Claudius, and for the Republic of Rome.

To His Most High Excellency Claudius Imperator,
Your Most Exalted Self,
Had I known that the Great Emperor would deign to regard my most humble self as worthy of HIS consideration I would have leapt at the chance to serve! Alas I have committed myself to my current course of action and no longer posses the opportunity to rush to my Emperor's summons.
In addition, my resources are too humble to manage the quality of service my Emperor deserves. Perhaps you would grant me a one time boon of 1000 Livre drawn upon the Imperial accounts? If so I would bend every will to render the highest quality of service my modest efforts could produce.
Until I have the great good fortune to bask in the presence of my Emperor's glory I shall remain crestfallen and sad,
Pvt. Jacques de Blanc

Pvt Jacques de Blanc,
I am most pleased to read your response and congratulate you upon your respect and address towards me.
A mere 1000 livres, consider it done I shall order gold be sent from Rome and gifted to you. Of course, that may take a week or more and in the interim your Emperor remains under immediate threat. Come join me and my followers, Durant, d'Blancheur etc at the hunt for my missing Hugolina, I am convinced with our collective strength we can find out what Lagarde has done to her.
Emperor Claudius
