Doctors and Advocates
I think for the sake of clarity 3.2 F should read
-----------------------
It would be an idea to repeat 3.2 F at the beginning of 37.1 too, so it can be plainly seen by those considering a career as a Doctor of Advocate.
Also, as mentioned previously, those following 'Learned Professions' (Doctors and Advocates) should be able to follow an artistic profession alongside if they wish, but not a second Learned Profession (which demands more prior knowledge than they will have). A practicing Doctor with passion for art, music and/or the theatre is much more believable than a practicing Advocate who is also a practicing Doctor. So I think 37.1 should read
So the paragraph just before 37.3 would then read
Artists, Playwrights and Musicians can choose when to work and can schedule their professional endeavours around improving their skills and/or social events. Similarly Actors can choose not to work for four months at a stretch without being kicked out of their companies. Doctors and Advocates, however, can have work thrust upon them at very short notice and face professional disadvantages if they don't take it. This doesn't ring true to me - they should be able to choose which cases to take and which to let slide. "Sorry, we're far too busy to take on any major cases at the moment" implies that they are competent and their services in demand - it shouldn't make it more difficult for them to attract major cases in the future. I'd suggest that the "+1 if refused to take last important case" be removed from section 37.3 which should now read as follows:

F.) All characters will start with a Medical ability and Legal Ability between 0 and 3. Those wishing to follow a medical or legal career (termed 'Learned Professions'), however, may create backgrounds for their characters allowing prior knowledge of medical OR legal matters. This will allow them to add half their admin score to the relevant skill number to create a beginning 'effective skill level' of up to 6. This, coupled with a single course of study at the University, will allow a character to enter that career.
The 'effective skill level' is used in any skill checks and when determining if any important cases are offered, but the actual skill level is still used when determining eligibility to teach at the University. If a character ceases to formally practice then the admin skill boost is lost and effective skill in the field reverts to actual skill level.

Professional Doctors and Advocates are similar to Professional Artists. The main differences are that they may not seek patrons regarding their professional activities (but may still seek them if they are RAS members, artists etc.) and that they cannot choose when to work on major cases unless they are first offered to them. Serving members of the Army, Navy, Marines, Guards (Military Medical Specialists are still regarded as being in the armed forces) or Church may not operate as professional Doctors or Advocates and those working in one Learned Profession can't follow the other at the same time. Doctors and Advocates can follow artistic professions alongside their learned profession, however.

No matter how many professions a PC is in, he only gets Pay,SP & Influence for the Single highest one he has. So if a PC is a Novice Artist and a Practitioner of Medicine he will only receive the Practitioner SP, Pay and Inf. for the Practitioner - not both ***
37.3 At the end of each month, 2D6 are thrown for each professional Doctor or Advocate. On a score of their skill level or less, they are offered an important case for the following month, their potential patient/client being an NPC of the same SL as themselves. DMs to this roll are +1 if last case result was 'Could have done better', +2 if last case result was 'Terrible Mishap', -2 if last case was Triumphant Success. If the roll is 4 or more less than their current skill level, then the potential patient/client is one of the NPCs from the Patron list. If the professional gets an important case and decides to take it, then two weeks of the following month must be devoted to it. Which two weeks are taken up by the case is up to the professional, but for each week spent upon it he is paid 25 Livres (This is over and above any monies received due to the above table). If both professional and client are PCs, they may negotiate around this figure to their mutual satisfaction. (These two weeks can include the week of the court case for an advocate). At the end of the second week spent on a case a skill check is made - and the commensurate benefits/penalties applied.
