Given the queries in the main Revised Rules thread I thought it might be an idea it the new NPCs section was clarified a little. The section on PCs sending NPC employees to college to improve their skills is something discussed with Sam when we were coming up a means of assigning skill scores to NPCs.
43 NPCS
43.1 All NPCs now have secret abilities but the description of their general ability level - inexperienced, professional and expert - is purposely vague. When a PC wishes to hire an NPC Advocat, Doctor, Artist, Musician or Land Agent the GM should be advised of the ability level required. The actual skill level will be secretly determined by the GM as follows. (AL - Ability Level):
INEXPERIENCED
1-2 = AL 3
3-5 = AL 4
6 = AL 5
PROFESSIONAL
1-2 = AL 4
3-5 = AL 5
6 = AL 6
EXPERT
1-2 = AL 5
3-5 = AL 6
6 = AL 7
The pay scales for Advocates and Doctors is 30/50/70 per month for inexperienced, professional and expert respectively.
The pay scale for Land Agents is 20/25/30 per month
The pay scale for Artists is 20/25/30 per week
The pay scale for Musicians is 5/10/15 per week
43.2 PCs can pay for their NPC employees to attend the appropriate academy to improve their skills. The time and costs required are the same as for PCs (and when the GM informs the PC that his employee has been asked to teach it will be clear that a skill level of 7 has been reached ).
This is primarily of use where Land Agents are concerned, but could be applied in other areas too. For example, if a character plans on appointing an NPC Advocate as his 'family lawyer' he may choose to pay for him to attend the Law Academy until teaching levels are reached. This will give the PC first option regards the Advocate's services in the future - and the Advocate will never act against him.
If this route is followed, the PC must cover the NPC's living expenses (3 x SL livres per month, as though the NPC were the PC's Protege) in addition to his study fees for as long as the study lasts.
