A question.....checking the rules it notes that all horses in the Auction are 2 year old's. The Horse Race Calendar lists the criteria requirement for individual races and only those of The Paris Derby and The Steeplechase would eligible for any of these auction horses to enter, since they are precluded by age from the other 3 races shown (Futurity/St Denis Stakes/Downs).
Thus if we were to purchase a horse through this current Auction it would be 4 months before a race (The Paris Derby) is available to enter? Is this correct? Also if we were to purchase any of the horses shown with 0 Months of Growth Left - there being 2 such horses Lady of Shallot & White Gold - does this mean they have just reached Age 3 and could be eligible to race in The Futurity which is held in the 3rd Week of January?
I ask this because the temptation of future income from winning races requires a significant outlay in the game and there are very few players showing as having a purse comfortable enough to buy a horse without further financial pressure, and I believe many of the characters are struggling already financially. The initial cost, the stabling fees, the race entry fees etc all mount up (if you pardon the pun!) and to buy a horse and then have to wait 4 months (Paris Derby) before you can even race it and then have to wait again for another 6 months (The Steeplechase) makes this almost as untempting as the Paris Lottery!

The rules are a bit unclear with this. I'm going to rule that any horses bought now count as 3 year olds for the purpose of racing in The Futurity. It's still likely that this is a distraction for wealthier gentlemen though!
(At the very least, this means that even if the horses are all bought by NPCs there will be a proper lineup for the Futurity).

Yes, but the winnings think of the winnings...all those juicy livres running through one's fingers...the highs of being wealthy beyond one's childhood dreams!! Pierre desperately tried to juggle the immediate limitations of his modest purse, the monthly outgoings, the future needs and debts to repay but...BUT...surely a couple of decent commissions here and there, a lucky lottery win to tide him over it must surely be worth the gamble...and didn't that nice fellow at Blue Gables, the one at the bar, say he knew for sure that The Kings Sword was a hidden diamond, a dead cert to win all of it's future races.
He could see it all now, a prestigious owner's box at the course, surrounded by friends invited to watch his horse romp home, then a commotion close by as someone approached surrounded by footmen and guards...could it be...really...His Majesty coming to ask of the form of Pierre's horse and passing encouraging words. Once his Majesty had graced Pierre with conversation of the race how simple it could be to mention that painting was also his passion and that how delightful it would be to grace a canvass with His Majesty's portrait!
To hell with caution, one only lives once, a man must grasp opportunity with both hands, forge his own destiny...yes...yes..it must be done. Swiftly putting quill to paper Pierre scribbled -
Pierre Flump, aka Pierre the Painter, bids 255 livres for The Kings Sword.

His Eminence Cardinal Armand Jean du Plessis Richelieu bids 500L on Desert Orchid.
(Does anyone want to try and outbid his eminence? Go on! What's the worst that could happen?)

His Majesty bids 500. (OOC: Note you can bid on up to two horses in this auction. Funnily enough, the best statted horses is one of the ones NPCs are interested in. )

Pierre Flump, downhearted by his failed auction bids for The Kings Sword, but deferring to His Majesty's status and purse, now switches his bidding to Gilded Bird and offers 205 livres with the sincere hope that no other minted noble comes forward to snatch this horse from under him!
