The well-made carriage slowed as it crested the hills outside Paris. “Stop here Pierre. I want to see the city before we enter,” said Raoul. Being the second son of one of the Ducs in Burgundy, Raoul had always known that he would have to make his own way in the world. His older brother, Louis, would gain the estates when their father, Armand, died. May that day be long in coming.
Stepping out of the comfortable carriage, Raoul gazed at the city that would be his home for quite some time. He had of course been to Paris before and even attended Royal Court with his father. How the bright the court had been. He had even seen the Horse Guards ride out of the city on one occasion. But this time, he was going to have to survive by his own wits and charm.
While the military was not his main concern growing up, he did like the look of horses, but art was something he was very good at.
