The Social Whirlwind by Le Mole
Ah, the festive season. Let us hope you are all feeling equally festive, my dear plum blossoms.
Of course, festive cheer does not excuse us from the necessity of remembering our dearly departed. And I was impressed to see Madmoseille Bacque hold a memorial service for those fallen at the front. Perhaps she has hidden depths of sensitivity? It was something of a quiet reflection, with Monsieur Flump and Father de la Bassee also in attendance. May our brave soldiers rest in peace.
Some confusion from Baron Lagarde de Bearne. First of all he was hosting a fundraiser to raise money for the ransom of poor Major Marsaud. Then he wasn't and it was just a party. And yet it was a party where Baron Lagarde de Bearne was apparently staying sober. How very strange. In fact, with the attendance of three members of the cloth (who have all apparently decided to turn teetotal for some reason), the only attendee carousing was Guardsman D'Blancheur!
Speaking of the Baron, it was of course the month of his titling ceremony. I was impressed that he'd managed to find himself a respectable companion for the event. I was starting to assume he'd be hiring his young lady from the Bawdyhouse. I'm sure he's also very excited to be given lands in Champagne. Surely he'll be able to overcome the unnecessary provincial rivalry for the greater good And Baron Lagarde de Bearne and Dame Belya took to the grand ball with much enthuasism. The only dark cloud was the represenatives of the Shylocks waiting outside to talk to Baron Lagarde de Bearne. I wonder what that could be about...
I'm pleased to say that Monsieur Aigulle's financial situation seems to be looking up,. He even moved back into an apartment. I suspect that a combination of the noble tastes of Baron Lagarde de Bearne and the rather extravagant artistic tastes of Monsieur Flump have helped his financial situation greatly. (Although some might say that his shop is not quite suitable for a member of the nobility, at least it's a bargain, no?)
And it was nice to see Monsieur Augulle and Monsigneur Robin getting on so spendidly at the end of the month. It's good for Monsigneur Robin to have a friend at this troubling time.
May you all have a frightfully enjoyable Christmas and I will see you all next year.

Romantic Interlude
By Yvonne de Villepin
December is upon us and as I write this, it is snowing! Well, if you ignore the rain accompanying it like a dashing, if damp, escort, it is, anyway. And what of our lovely snowflakes and their own dashing, though hopefully not damp, escorts? Ah, the lovely M'elle Johi Bachelet and her suitor M. Quintin Aiguille are reunited! After last month's terrible cessation of their union, he brought the most wonderful bouquet of flowers and sugar snowflakes to her, along with his most sincere apologies. Dear Johi remembered that sometimes forgiveness is essential in a relationship and it brings me no end of pleasure to say they are back together! Newcomer to Paris, M'elle Sabilina Granet has proven rather popular. The maiden turns heads wherever she goes, as evidenced by Guillaume Fitzbraose approaching her in the first week and Arnold d'Blancheur in the fourth week. Dear Sabilina clearly is a woman with a fickle heart, or an overabundance of popularity! Dame Emelin Belya may have found a love worthy of her attentions though, as newly minted Baron Huillaume Lagarde de Bearne courted her in the first week, and she accompanied him to his titling ceremony and ball later in the month! My what a wonderful December it has been! So romantic! Ah, I do hope your Christmas and New Years are met with love, remember, it is traditional to kiss someone at midnight on New Years, if you do not have a ladyfriend by then, may I suggest courting one of the wonderful ladies of Paris?

ROME and its influence on the Parisian church
By Pastor Jacques
There have been EVENTS in the PAPIST church.
It seems Father Lachapelle is worried about something. He spent his 'mass' watching over his shoulder as if the DEVIL himself was chasing him. And perhaps HE was. Who am I to say? It is a shame that the presence of Subaltern D'Blancheur from the Cardinal's Guard did not make our representative of Rome feel more SAFE.
I do not celebrate CHRISTMAS because I am not a PAGAN but Father de la Bassee does. In the presence of Father Lachapelle. Perhaps they have found COMMON grouund despite previous disagreements.
Monsigneur Robin has finally found JUSTICE over his DRUNKEN ways. A tribunal of three bishops unanimously found him GUILTY. And he shall be sent to the HOLY land for three months to spread his TRUTH to the weak willed. I would have chosen someone ELSE to talk to the heathens. One less likely to be DRUNK.
Until NEXT time I have been Pastor JACQUES.
Editorial note: We're aware that hiring a Huguenot correspondent will be controversial among our readers. However, we believe this is justified under the Treaty of Nantes. And Pastor Jacques' rather unorthodox theological views make it unlikely he'll feel the need to take sides in current church divisions. Naturally, he has been told not to use this column to undermine the true church.

This month I found myself snubbed. Snubbed! Me! Preposterous! I was not invited to the unveiling of Baron Huillaume Lagarde de Bearn's masterpiece 'The Brave's Last Stand'. I am, naturally quite insulted by this oversight. I am certain that it was merely an oversight and not deliberate, is that not correct, Baron de Bearne?
I later had the pleasure of viewing this work at the Officer's Mess at the Headquarters of the Royal Foot Guards, as someone had the common decency to extend an invitation to view it there.
'The Brave's Last Stand' is an excellent retelling in the form of an oil-on-canvas painting depicting the untimely demise of Ensign Piquet. It truly is excellent. Next time, however, it may be worth inviting me to the initial unveiling.

Reports from the Front by General Georges Boulle (rtd.)
Bloody animals. A lot of work went into raising the ransom for Major Marsaud. Only for the bloody Austrians to throw it back in our faces. A lot of bloody money as well. No excuse there, none.
At least pacification of the frontiers worked well this month.
Take the Spanish Frontier as an example. We've been on alert there, watching for activity from the enemy. But this month the powers that be decided to make damn sure there was no resistance, with both the Royal North Highland Brigade and the Crown Prince Curiassers reinforcing the Frontier regiment. And we've driven the enemy from the field. All that will be needed there now is a basic garrison, meaning the lucky lads of the Crown Princce Curiassers will be coming back home after just a month of fighting.
Not much action at Flanders with the enemy staying passive. Apart from a cowardly ambush launched on the Dragoon Guards. Fortunately the quick thinking of their Mestre de Camp, Lieutenant de la Azur, lead to them escaping with minimal casualties.
Mention is Dispatches: Lieutenant de la Azur
Lorraine saw even less action, with nothing but standard patrols to speak of.
The same would go for Savoy where our troops mostly spent their time in the barracks. But rumours of enemy plans in the area mean that we'll be taking a more active approach in January.
Next Month's Deployments
Spanish Border - HL 1 (Peace), Garrison Flanders - HL 2 (Garrison), Garrison Lorraine HL 1 (Peace), Garrison Savoy HL 3 (Alert), Defense

Madamme Ludenburg, pleaae, accept my most sincere appologies for not having expressely invited you to unveiling of my painting. It sure was an unforgivable mistake on my part not to do it, but just retourning from the long tour at the front made me somewhat alien to usual Paris courtesies, and I dared to assume just opening the invitation to everyone will also attract the most important art commentor of Paris. Be sure I will send you a proper personal invitation to you when I unveil more paintings (as long as I feel they are acceptable enough as to deserve your attention), and let me thank you for the oppinion given to this one, despite my mistake in courtesy. I remain, Madamme, your most humble server Baron Huillaume Lagarde de Béarne Captain Royal Foot Guards Amateur painter

"What just happened?" Abbe Robin stood in the hallway after his trial still not understanding what had happened.
His attourney mainly praised Robins character and somehow lost track to stick to the case itself. The other side wasn't much better. If this would have been a stage at the theatre Francois would have laughed but here the story ended in a GUILTY!
The young Abbe would travel to the holy land mainly due to a bunch of bored bishops. Three month caught under the hot sun. Surronded by savages he feared. Pale and in a depressed state he stumbled on the streets of Paris.
(ooC.: No sermons the next three month I fear.)
