I know there's some concern about this in terms of fairness to Guards regiment players, so I'm putting up the first draft ahead of time. Obviously, everyone is free to comment on this but I'll be paying particular attention to the players most affected.
Duties of Guards Companies
Members of the Royal Foot Guards, Cardinal’s Guard and King’s Musketeers do not have duties like other regiments, but instead have special duties at Court.
Each week, one company of the Royal Foot Guards will have active duty guarding Court. All members of that company must be at Court that week, and this counts towards the duties of subalterns and guardsmen. The Colonel of the RFG decides which company is on duty each week, and an NPC will put company 1 on duty in week 1, company 2 in week 2 etc. unless influence is used to change this. The Royal Foot Guards must go wherever the King is holding Court. If Court is at Versailles or the Louvre, the characters can participate in social life in Paris in their time off.Guards Regiments and Attending Court.
If the King visits the Provinces or the Frontier, at least one of the companies of Kings Musketeers must volunteer to go with him. NPC captains will volunteer on 3+ for a visit to the Frontier, 4+ for a visit to the Provinces. If none are shown to volunteer, both will.
The Cardinal's Guard operates in the same way as the Royal Foot Guards, apart from they will not attend the Frontier.
Ensigns and Captains of the Guards are free to attend Court at any time when they are not on duty and may take their mistresses on these occasions. Subalterns and Guardsmen can try to sneak in, but run a 1 in 6 chance of being caught by their Captain, who can punish them with a week’s extra duties if caught (NPCs will do this on 1+). If they toady, the chance of being caught rises to 4+ on d6. They are free to indulge in any Court activity
Each time an Guardsman gets caught trying to sneak in to an event he is docked a month's wages and has to spend an extra week on duties the following month. There is also a chance that they will be dismissed permanently from the Escort, as follows, with a DM of +1 for each time previously caught :
Rank 2D6 Roll
Ensign 11+
Guardsman 10+
Court Intrigue
Guardsmen can typically earn extra money by acting as ears to overhear Court intrigue. They can indulge in this activity in any week that they are at Court (including that spent on duty). This can be quite profitable, and guards can earn money in tips, bribes etc. according to their rank:

2d x 50
Ensign
7+
2d x 20

This occupation is a somewhat risky one. For every week spent in this way, there is a chance that the persons being spied upon will find out (a roll of 2 on 2d6). If this happens, they will use influence to get the character’s superior to sack him, against the character’s next appointment (class d6 + 3 favour), or to try to influence the King to deliver his displeasure upon him.
Being Noticed
Guardsmen are likely to be noticed while performing duties for their company and rewarded. At the start of each month, roll 2d6 for each guardsman. Guardsmen are noticed on a roll of 12, Subalterns on 11+, Ensigns on 10+ and Captains on 9+. There is a +1 Bonus for Guardsmen and Subalterns if the Guardsman has worked at court that month. If noticed, roll on the table below, with +1 for each point the roll succeeds by:

Promotion
Promoted guardsmen are given brevet ranks if they do not have the title required for the new rank. They must gain the required title within one year otherwise they lose the rank.
Captains (and the Colonel of the RFG) may use their promotion to seek a field command, and are elevated to the rank of Brevet Brigadier General. If they do not wish this promotion, they can refuse it and gain a MiD instead.
Guardsmen who achieve Court appointments must resign their rank in the regiment.
