The Duelling Doctor Arrested For Burglary!
Doctor Guiseppi Spaghetti is currently in gaol, having been caught climbing out of the window of war hero Guardsman de Miremont clutching several valuable candlesticks!
The doctor was caught by Mademoiselle Emmelina, who had been keeping an eye on the apartment while her brave beau was away at the front. Emmelina bumped into the doctor as he was carrying out his dastardly deed and recovered her wits quickly enough to raise a hue and cry.
A statement smuggled out of gaol from the doctor assured everyone that this is "nothing but a giant misunderstanding".

A Romantic Interlude
By Yvonne de Villepin
Oh, I am so excited! A little birdy tells me there may be a wedding soon! Chevalier Laurent and M. de Miremont have both been with their ladies for long enough to make such a situation likely! Ah, and as for dear Emmelina, she is so brave! Imagine catching a thief red handed in the house of her beau! She must have been quite afraid, and yet she was able to raise a hue and cry to protect her darling de Miremont’s belongings! A brave lady and a brave soldier! Such a match! Naturally, I shall be hosting the bridal showers for both ladies, Emmelina and Eloise both. Should such be needed! We also have a few new couples in Paris! M. Louis has been seen with Hugolina Côté about town, and as for dear Joya Boudet, she has been seen in the company of M. Bellgarde! Such lovely new romances! In attendance at the services of Curate Dieudonné was seen Angnes Calvert in the company of M. D'Mestos! The pair were seen together at the Frog and Peach later in the month. As for Mimi Grasbas, if she hopes to stifle the rumours that she prefers the company of ladies, she ought to stop rejecting every gentleman caller. This month, she rejected the advances of M. d'Blancheur. Love is not something to run from, my dear M’elle Grasbas, love is truly the pinnacle of human existence.

The Social Whirlwind by Le Mole
Really Monsieur Bellgarde? Your humble scribe understands the importance of getting along with all strands of society. But perhaps taking Monsieurs d'Aisne and Louis to the Rose & Crown was a bit much. I'm surprised the poor lambs didn't faint at the sight of an actual vintage bottle of wine. Still, at least yourself and Louis have your utter lack of gambling skill to bond over.
Worse, this was a rather quiet month after the excitement of July. It does seem that the Frog & Peach is the fashionable place for lovers to meet. In the fourt week I saw Jacques D'Mestos, Quintin Aiguille and Gabriel Lannes there, all enjoying some romantic attention. From their mistresses, not each other.
Apart from that, it seems you were all disappointly busy. I would say I will see you at the September ball. But, aside from Chevalier Laurent, we all know you won't be let in. (Yes, I know some of you are trade there. I don't care).

An Ecumenical Matter
By Bishop Henry Defour
As I am sure has already been stated, patience is a virtue, and repeatedly attempting to gain a promotion can make a priest seem impetuous, Curate Lachapelle. That said, the curate did perform a sermon in the first week. It was about the importance of artistic expression to the Almighty, and was attended by M. D’Mestos who was praised for his taste in art, and his ladyfriend, M’elle Calvert.
Curate Robin, not to be outdone, performed his service the following week. In attendance was an unaccompanied M’elle Bacque, M. D’mestos who clearly has a Godly amount of piety and newcomer Father de la Bassee.
Our new Jansenist priest, Father de la Bassee conducted a sermon in the first week, to which nobody of note attended, on the importance of serving God and country and protecting France from those who mean her ill. In the third week, he conducted another sermon, this time on the importance of purity, chastity and avoiding elicit romance. M. Blancher was in attendance and it appears he took the sermon entirely to heart as he was not sighted wasting his money on loose women in the bawdy house or, indeed, with any ladies all month! Marriage, M. Blancher, is important, for does Scripture not command that man be fruitful and multiply, within the sanctity of wedlock?
I pray that you have a pleasant month, dear reader. God bless.

Reports from the Front by General Georges Boulle (rtd.)
At least someone will pay for this farce. It has been announced that both the Army Commander and the 1st Division Commander will be returning to Paris to face a Court Martial on grounds of gross incompetence.
As you would assume from that, the 'gentlemen' in question did no better this month.
As a whole, our army was repulsed and we're now officially on the back foot.
The 1st Division suffered a similar fate. At this point it should be mentioned that Captain Lagarde de Bearne showed a loyalty some would say his superior doesn't deserve. The 1st Division Commander only survived to face a court martial because of Captain Lagarde de Bearne's personal bravery in fighting off the enemy soldiers.
Quite rightly, this courage will be recognised with a knighthood.
The 2nd and 3rd Brigades did as well as could be hoped under the circumstances at least being able to hold off the charge of the enemy although only at great cost in men. Jean Paul Marsaud of the Languedoc Regiment sees himself brevet to Major to make up for some of the losses.
The Frontier Divisions did no better, with the enemy's increasing confidence being put to bloody, deadly use. If it hadn't been for Major Laurent's strategic mind things would have been ever worse and the King will be recognising his talents back in Paris.
I look forward to the court martials and hope the tribunal makes the right decision.
MIDS: Jean-Pierre Laurent, Huillaume Lagarde de Bearne, Jean Paul Marsaud Titles: Jean-Pierre Laurent, Huillaume Lagarde de Bearne Deaths: Bertrand Marchand
The Frontiers
Spanish Frontier - Troops will be holding off raids from the victorious Spanish troops (Defense, Hostility Level 4) Flanders - A guerilla war is currently taking place (Field, HL 5) Lorraine - Everything is peaceful (Garrison, HL 1) Savoy - A Garrison is making sure that the area remains under control (Garrison, HL 2)
See the OOC section for what this means for you!

Medical Matters by Docteur Armand Livarot
The Parisian Medical Establishment has been severely shaken this month by the allegations of attempted theft levelled at Docteur Guiseppe Spaghetti. Should these allegations be proven it appears likely that Docteur Spaghetti will be struck from the Medical Register on the grounds of gross misconduct, his Diplôme d'État de Docteur en Médecine being suspended until further courses at the Faculty of Medicine on the Rue de la Bûcherie have been satisfactorily completed.
Monsieur George Porget, Proprietor of the Lady's Slipper, has stated that Docteur Spaghetti will be dismissed from his post as Resident Physician should he receive a sentence which prevents him from fulfilling his duties.
