The Lottery sold 10 numbers last month, so the pot is just 500 for this one. As new Director, I find those numbers too low for the Lottery to have any sense (or interest). So, effective this same month (January 1631), the Lottery system will change: - The price will remain at 25 L per number.
- From now on, the prizes will be fixed to 1000 L the main one and 250 for the adjacent numbers. Additionally, any number whose last digit coincides with the winner one (except the winner one) will have its money back.
- Should there be no winner, 500 L will be added to the main prize and 125 to the secondary ones (adjacent numbers). This will be cumulative.
I hope those larger prizes will stir the interest on it. Anyone can be lucky… Baron Huillaume Largarde de Béarne Director of the Lottery. OOC: the main reason of those changes (approved by our King Louis XIII) is that the old system was broken. Not only the prizes used to be quite low (as few people bought them), but it could be cheated, as someone buying all numbers would spend 2500 L and win a pot of 5000 plus 1250 more per each adjacent number (for a total of 7500 L winning for 2500 L expense). To avoid the pot to mount too much and allowing this kind of trick, each month there would be a probability equal to (¼ of the unsold numbers)% that an NPC wins it, so restarting the pot. Of course there can be an occasional time when this trick might work, but I hope this will be rare.

OOC: Example about how it will work:
16 numbers have been sold this month, and there's no accumulated pot.
The number is 52. If anyone has chosen it, he will win 1000L. If anyone has chosen either 53 or 51, he will earn 250. Every other number ended in 2 will have the 25L back to the buyer.
If no one has chosen the 52, there's a 21% (1/4 of the 84 unsold numbers) probability some NPC won it, and the following month the prizes will keep the same. If no NPC has won it, the following month the prizes would be 1500 for the exact number and 375 for the adjacent ones.
See that with the older system, having sold 16 numbers, the main prize would be 400 L, and the adjacent numbers would earn 100 L...

My Lord,
I believe you are intending to mortgage your Champagne estate ?
Might I suggest you allow the House of Visconti to handle this ?
You may recall that it was Messire Visconti who handled the ransom attempt regards Major Marsaud? Although this was unfortunately refused, this was not for want of effort on Messire Visconti's part.
Respectfully Yours,
Madame Helen Bacque
P.S. I regret that yourself and your good lady will be unable to attend the art exhibition which Vicomte Roland is hosting this month. I will prevail upon him to bear your duty roster in mind when hosting future events.

Nobody has won the Lottery prize this January.
Accordingly, the prize for February is 1500 L for the main prize (exact number) and 375 for secondary ones (adjacent numbers).
Those with the same last digit will still recover the cost of their ticket.
Baron Lagarde Director of the Lottery.
